... I cant seem to get the seach option working.

I would like suggestions on what to try next on a pony that the time before last was hunted in a rubber cheltenham gag with a grackle, pulled and leant on it and felt like I was trying to stop a steam train. Pony came home with a sore mouth.

Took him again yesterday in a tom thumb with a kineton and standing martingale, was better, but still really heavy in the hand. He just seems to stick his nose on the floor and once it is there he is difficult to pick back up. We go along with the field, so its not as if Im fighting him the whole time, but would just like him to respond to stop when everyone else is pulling up.

It is not essential that my 13 yo daughter be able to hunt him as she has another pony that she can take, but it would be nice for her to have the option if she wishes.

I would try a double bridle - it's the only thing I can hunt Ron in until he's well settled (usually 10-12 days into the season!)

he used to shove his head down and through a gag/combination bit, and he used to go up in a pelham!

My friend has a pony which is a complete tank and she hunts him until a double bridle until well into the season where he can have an American Gag in.

She does stay up front though and not stop until the master does as she can't but the double gives her enough to stay behind the master.

Bomber Bits make some very interesting sweet metal bits - gags, pelhams and more - they made me a Roller Eggbutt Twisted gag for one of my previously unstoppable ponies ( nb on the polo ground, not hunting field...but lack of brakes is lack of brakes!) Previously she leant on the bit and got a very sore mouth, with this I don't need to use it so much as she respects it, so she's lighter in my hands and her mouth doesn't get sore.
