I know this sounds utterly stupid!

one of my mares ''escaped'' into a field with what I thought/think had a gelding in it. I spoke to the guy who's gelding it is and he said i could leave her in to give my field a rest and keep his horse company!
Anyway, she is huge now, I have never had a problem with her weight before.
I know this sounds utterly stupid but I am 95% certain the horse is a gelding but surely if said horse was a stallion the man would of said!?
I will have to make a quick phone call I think....

Ask the bloke about his "gelding" ... or take a walk around the field and take a look at the gelding to see if he's got boy bits

I tried to have a 'look' at said horse but was very grumpy with me and tried to charge!

Yeah if eh was recently gelded he could still produce hehe! But if that field has a lot of grass she could just have got fat?! Hmm!

Ask when the horse was gelded.

Is there a possibility it could be a Rig?

Or as stated above if you don't normally have a lot of grass it could be that

especially at this time of year.?

Hopefully it will just be that she is seriously overweight!! .. although I obviously realise this is a serious problem as well.

When I bought Molly she had been fattened up as the dealer was planning on selling her for meat, she had also been in a field with a recently gelded 6 yo! She didn't seem to lose any of her weight for about 6 months and I was paranoid she as in foal! Wouldn't have been that bad though - he was a very pretty boy and I'm planning on putting her in foal anyway. Luckily she started to lose weight eventually!

Our Highland pony was bred after his sire was gelded. they turned him out with mares straight after the gelding and you know wat happened next

Jay's a very nice pony though, and did win a bit as a youngster!
