Henry has been having recall issues - otherwise known as sudden onset spaniel deafness

This has been driving me mad, he was doing so well then went backwards for no reason I could work out... I was even considering going back to the flexi-lead which I would have been gutted to have to do!

However we may have had a breakthrough this lunchtime. I have just spent a good amount of time running away from him waving a stick, hiding in bushes, hedges, on the edge of fields, and at one point lying down in the middle of a path

He thinks I have gone mad but he is definitley interested in coming back now...

I am knackered!!!

Lol - I like that!

Well done - have done the same myself - felt a bloody fool, very glad there was no one around to watch - but it worked!

Haha, glad you're getting somewhere. Drivers passing by my house can often be distracted by the sight of me running and hiding behind a large tussock in the field, yelling "PUPPYYYYYYYY!!!!!!"

Hehe!!

Sweep regularly refuses to get out of the brook - I have tried everything - sticks, balls, dinner etc and then finally waded into the brook put a lead on and dragged him out - all to get him to go for a walk over the fields - most dogs would give their right paw to run round acres of fields with bunnies but not Sweep

LOL! How true!

Me and the OH do the hiding in long grass/behind trees/etc routine with Otto, it must look even funnier with two people doing it! Especially when said dog is nowhere to be seen!

An extra dimension is added by the fact that I get hayfever but am too tight to buy tablets this early in the year... so am to be seen hiding in the long grass sneezing with running eyes!

The things we do for these beasties

LOL ! I am to be seen running backwards shouting "COME!!!!" when my boy chases cyclists..I have found running AWAY far better than running AFTER..running after just makes him thinks I am joining in the game.

ETA I dislike flexi leads, cos I reckon if a dog is on the lead he should be close and behaving: once off he can run and explore.

I don't like them either, only had one for Henry as I couldn't let him off the lead for 6 weeks and he would have gone nuts if he hadn't been able to run at all for that length of time. It has been mothballed since and am not planning on getting it back out!

Happily running away and hiding seems to work, although I did make some none doggy walkers jump a bit when they passed me in the hedge today! Maybe they thought I was a flasher?

Or going to the loo?

cool saying goodbye and walking away from my pup works he is terrible at coming back, sometimes he comes back, literally running to your feet and sitting otherwise he just runs and runs and runs
