In recognition of my negative outlook I have decided to start a positive thread where we can share our pure horsey joy....

I love.... When it is my nights to do late hay and little perky faces nicker at me as I get to the gate, fatty mare starts kicking her door and shatters the starlit silence and when I put the lights on 5 pairs of little piggy, blinky eyes adjust to coming out of darkness.

Within 5 minutes all faces are once again buried in piles of sweet haylage and I return to her door and watch her snuffling around, as happy as she could be. I usually watch her for five minutes, go in and check her temperature, go away and fill up waters or skip out stables and then go back to watching. I tell her I love her; she usually ignores me. I lock the gate and I always notice how bright the stars are and feel lucky to dedicate my time to such a rewarding quest.

What do you love?

I love walking round the corner to see my mares beautiful face looking out watching out for me...... To hear that whinny as she sees me is priceless and makes me smile :)

This face. Every time he looks at me, I feel like the luckiest person alive and I feel myself growing, just a little, into the person I'd like to be - the person he deserves.

I also love the Daemon and J and their big, daft faces :o

I love it when I get a proper cuddle from my boy - not just a snuffle to see if I've got any edibles on me - and when he lets me give him a smooch on the nose :D

I love it when its snowy or frosty, my horses nicker when i arrive and come to the gate:D normally even when its peeing down they like to stand in the farest corner and watch me walk up the 10acre field with a bemused expressive as if to say "oh you want to catch me??"

Everything my horse is and how lucky he makes me.
And a lot of the time this forum! It gives me a link to the equestrian community that I feel I lack being on a lovely, but small, yard. The support is unending, and has got me through some horrid times.

I love watching a horses ears as you canter/gallop somewhere open, all pricked and cheerful. I also love it when my old man pony falls asleep with his head on my knee and I have to prod him awake to get back up.

I love it when I release my little field gremlin into her paddock and she charges 'round at full gallop with what I can only imagine is the Black Beauty theme tune running through her head. :D

I love the calm I feel while at the yard. The way being near the horses relaxes me and puts my mind at ease. Nothing else really matters, all upset momentarily forgotten and worries disperse.

Then you walk out the gate and it all bloomin' returns!!

The peace and quiet and gentleness of my lovely ponies the way they call to me when I arrive, and come galloping up the field to see me regardless of whether I come armed with food or not

I love leaning against the gate and seeing this. I feel like the luckiest person alive.

Tonight was the first time for ages that I got home from work to see it all without a torch and it was such a simple pleasure

I love the whiny I get in the mornings and how no matter how bad a day I have had it disappears as soon as I get to the yard x

I love when my pony breathes down my neck if i'm leaning with my back against her stable door!! She started doing this last week. She manages to nuzzle right in under my pony tail and breathes all warm down my back!!! Also love the snuffley noises she makes when bringing her hay or feed in!!

I love the fact that however horrible the thought of getting up early going out in the rain/cold/dark etc, I always feel peaceful and happy when I get there. Horses are always happy to see you and there are so many bonuses like the sunrise/sunset or seeing the deer or buzzard who frequent our field.

I love that contented feeling on a cold wet night knowing that my horse is all snuggly warm in his stable with a full haynet and lovely deep bed.

Or seeing his lovely face looking over the door when I turn up in the morning.

Or seeing his beautiful mane, tail and feathers all flowing when he canters up to the gate to me.

Or his lovely big cob bum .. munchable!!!

Last thing at night, checks done, lights out and standing in the yard listening to everyone munching on their hay. The most peaceful sound ever.

I love the greetings I get in the mornings. I love that after I scrape Abba's bucket and I try to leave she insists upon checking I've gotten it all out. She gives it a couple of licks, gives me an "ok you can leave now" look and goes back to her food. I also like how opinionated my girls are. Most wouldn't but I know what's up with them at all times. I like that I have a snuggle gelding.

I love that I'm truly blessed to have all of them in my life!

I love that even only having my current boy for a short while he makes me feel like the most important person in the world to him.

I love that even after only having him a short while he whinneys when he hears my car door shut before he even sees me.

I love that sound of muching hay peacefully all snug at the end of the day.

When my new boy, who was fairly headshy when I got him and still occasionally bites me when he forgets his manners, comes and lays his face against mine when he's had a nice groom or a bit of a cuddle. I'm in awe of how quickly he has recognised that we can have a peaceful time together without the need for food or biting... That said, I'm still slightly careful in case he decides to take a bite out of my face (:0) at the same time but definitely think we're building trust between us.

I love the way Basil shoves his face into his bridle as soon as I put it in front of him.

I love that being led past the Scary Plastic Bags on his way to the field is utterly terrifying - unless I'm standing between him and the bags.

I love that, when he's warmed up and working nicely, if I ask him for a halt he always stops perfectly square and stands with his neck arched, looking so pleased with himself.

I love discovering, every time I ride him, just how much he knows and how responsive and willing he is, and what a perfect schoolmaster he is.

I love that, with me, he'll sproing around a bit and show off, but as soon as one of the RDA riders is on him, he's careful and steady.

Basically, I love that pone. :D

I love reading topics like these... We make it sound like it's all worthwhile, especially with Winter dragging on like it is at the moment - I think we all need reminding!

I love it when I go out in the evening to give them their over night hay net and switch the lights on and they both look so sleepy and cute as their eyes adjust to the light - Awwwww haha, gets me every time for some reason!

The smell of sweet haylage and fly spray on a Summer's evening.. can't wait for that!

Letting my new little one take himself to bed when I open the gate.. by the time I've put my other one away, he's already strolled on to the yard and right in to his stable and is happily munching away in there by the time I get to him. He's only 9 months old and came off the mountains about a month ago, he definitely enjoys the benefits of his stable! I can't get him out of there some mornings.

I agree about the feeling of freedom when with the horses, everything's easier.

Aaaah... come on Summer...

I love being so comfortable and free on my little young cob that i can happily laugh at her little quirks and spooks or snorts of disapproval when riding with a friend,

Instead of some other riders being too scared or nervous of the huge horse below them to just have fun! :D

I learnt this on a little beach ride that my pony will do anything for me, and i don't need as big horse to prove myself!
