Well how do i start my report!!!

The day started off very well leaving on time at 9 this morning with the new lorry packed to the rafters with everything we could ever need!!

Left home and everything was going well until we were 10 miles away and the rev counter went and a buzzer started going off (i dont exactly no what happend as i was asleep!!) so dad pulled over as the lorry was overheating. So after about 1/2 hour (i had woken up by now!) we tried to start it but nothing - not even ticking over! So called our NFU cover and they sent someone out to see what was wrong - Well!!! As soon as he walked over he said " i no whats wrong" well the fan belt had fallen off, opps!! And he couldnt fix it - would have been fine apparently if we had had a tilt cab!! So rang angela (phillipa) to tell the organisers we wouldnt be there to compeate, but as soon as i had hung up she phoned back to say they would pick us up - even if i would be 3 hours late for dressage!!!

Right we can get on to the good bit now!!

Got tacked up and went down to dressage and found i had 20 mins to go - so not to bad. He warmed up well if not a little flat but i wasnt expecting him to be on his toes as he never is!! Went in and he was so relaxed - it was nice to be able to ride him in a test for once. Did a lovely med trot and the travers was relaxed unlike last season so over all i was pleased even thou he did break in his 2nd counter canter so got a 4!!

Then after getting back i ran up to SJ to see if i had time to walk XC but no there was only 11 left to go including me!! So ring angela to ask mum to get song ready - by the time i got o SJ just in time to warm up and go!! Well i cant fault his jumping - it was just the fact he jumped most 5cm lower than they were but was making a great shape!! Lol so had 4 down but if it makes sense it was a good 4 down fir him as he stayed in a nice rhythem!!

Now to try and walk/run the XC!! went over to the start and explaining the situatin to the lovely starter and he sorted me out a lift round in a car so just had to get out an walk the combinations (have told mum i need to be late all the time - much easier driving XC!!) So after see the course thought it was quite nice apart from the large amout of skinnies

Warmed up and he was going quite well but in the rush mum had forgoten the spurs so was a bit worried about this!

Got called over to the start an we were off!! And OMG i have never loved my horse so much - we was great!! I had so much control, went round on a loose rain which if you know song this is not heard of!! He flew all the combos and the waters like a pro and for the 1st time in ages i felt i could kick on for the 2nd part of the course!

Ah so the drama dosnt stop there as angela was going back to wiltshire i got a lift home with our back man - well beyond the obvious duties!!! Lol

So just got home and looked at BE i had a 38.1 dressage, 16 SJ and 11.6 time pens XC which im quite pleased about considering i had the same pens in martinvast last year and couldnt stop at all!!

Well if you got this far uve done very well and thanks for reading! Will post some photos when i upload the vid on to the other comp and put them on here!!

xx

Ps thank you angela and pauline and also sam!!

What a day! Well done for getting through it and having such a good time.

Don't worry about the lorry - my Cargo did the same thing the day I collected it. Was fine.

What level were you doing?

You seem to make a habit of breaking down on the way to BE events! Was it barbury last time? Never mind.....at least you did really well when you got there!

STILL cannot get used to your new username - took me most of that to realise who was writing it!!

Sounds like a great day once you were there, looking forward to reading how the rest of the season goes

Me too, it wasn't untill i read the word 'song' that i remembered who it was haha..

Well done tho!

Everyone seemed to be breaking down on the way there.. Jon Souch managed to stop both sides of the M5 while he unloaded his lot from one lorry to a trailer.. if we had got there 5min earlier we could have offered him a lift..

Blimey, the Battens and their team should get a medal! How nice was that of them? Driving you round the xc!! And all other connections! Well done. Cannot believe Jon was given permission to do that, whenever I've broken down I've always been told I'll be towed, with my horses still on board, to my destination. Never had to do it yet, lorry's always been fixed luckily. The resources required for closing a motorway are high, even if they just use a rolling blockade for a short time.

ETS: sorry, used QR

am I going to be the only one to say.......... asleep? at 9am? Good grief, you lazy bugger!!! Id have a piece of string round your toe if I was your dad, and tug it hard evertime you snore.

Well done though.........sounds great.

Also Beth, what did you think of the novice xc??
i haven't done a novice for ages, so my eye is out.. i thought it was pretty straight forward/no questions asked/good first time novice!

Well done to you both. Its nice to know that there are people out there who will lend a hand in the hour of need.
Glad he`s coming through for you.

It was about 10 when i went to sleep!! Lol

Yer thought the novice there was tougher than it usually is ie more combos and skinnies but it was one of the nicest novices ive ridden in ages - seemed to floe much better than it usually does there and i thought all th combinations and waters rode fab!!

Ye not a bad score but if you had seen andrew hoys test before mine it should have been a better score!! Lol

I'm loving how people obviously think you put in a lot of work over the winter - I know i'm at uni but even I know that you get in from work and go and crash on the Sofa, usually with a jacket potato or at least food of some sort!!
But to be fair, I am absolutely loving the report and am soooooo proud of you and 'OUR' baby = song! LOL.
Am looking forward to Easter so so much so I can come and ride the precious eventer!
