He is an American Bashkir Curly!
First glance I thought he had been hogged and his tail had been bandaged up.....but no!
Some of these horses just dont have mane or tail hair (and he is one of those!) Others shed twice a year, and they have a curly coat.
His owner said he resembles a poodle in winter....a big puff of curly hair

I soooo liked him! Very nicely put together too, his owner went all the way to Scotland to get him (from SE!!) and I can see why!
So anyone else got one and pictures! I would like to see if its just him I liked or the breed in general!

Hi,seriously looked at them earlier this year & spoke to a couple of breeders, who were very helpful in answering my questions, lots of variations with their coats , manes & tails.
Very few in the UK, more in france & sweden.
But I didn't want a foal or a gelding so none really to chose from sooooo just bought an Appaloosa & brought her home yesterday!!!!
Still think I quite fancy a curly in the future tho.

Are these the horses that are hypoallergenic - ie are good for asthmatics etc to have? I seem to recall they are. Wonder what they're like to groom though!

Yes these horses are hypoallergenic.

Have seen an article on them before. It stated that they make great happy hackers, but at that time, there were "quality" issues.

Breeders were trying to produce crosses that retained the hypoallergenic element, but added performance ability.

For anyone allergic to horses, they really must be a dream come true.

A while back an owner of one of these horses posted some pictures of her horse on here, he was lovely. She said that as a breed they're not world beaters, but are a good sort, and in the summer they look the same as any other horse, its only in the winter that their curly hair shows. She also said that whenever she took him to shows she would get some very unkind comments about his coat, which is quite sad.

I'm slightly allergic to horses so would consider one, but then straw and hay sets me off much worse than horse hair does anyway!
