I need a good old boot up the behind..

Had a lesson today and got the OH to video it. I watched the various clips afterwards and felt so cross with myself. Maybe I'm just focussing on the faults ; of which there are many, but seriously these are things I Know Not To Do. I can only put it down to laziness or sloppiness I'm afraid. I love my lessons but I think I revert into a mind set of waiting for RI to tell me what to do instead of just doing it myself. I have now resolved to try harder next time and not be so flaming sloppy... Honest.

Feel free to give me a slapping and NO I'm Not posting a video.

Sounds like you've booted yourself up the behind with regards to trying harder in lessons, therefore it just remains for someone else to boot you up the behind to post video - which you can now consider done!

Maybe you need a different RI - I certainly don't do things right all the time, or even nearly all the time, or even most of the time! But whenever I am riding my RI's voice plays over in my head with all her various instructions so I tend to 'obey' that voice even she isnt saying it at the time. 'make sure your rein lengths are equal' 'hands near your body' 'weight in your elbows' 'legs! legs! legs!' 'turn your shoulders' etc. You can see from this what a numpty I am having to have such basic instructions repeated time after time but it works great out on hacks and such. (or at least I imagine it does as I dont have the nerve to have it videoed!)

I vote for video evidence! Videos are very helpful for novices like myself, especially when they are of people who are still learning themselves...pretty please with cherries on top

don't be so hard on yourself....i can recite from heart how i'm supposed to do millions of things, doesn't mean i can always physically do it...but well done for acting on it

I've got competitions on the laptop that I still haven't watched bits of several months later.

Maybe you need another instructor if this one isn't giving you the instruction that you feel you need ?

Much as I'd love to post a video clip I probably really shouldn't. RI is visible in most of them and its a RS horse too. Whew ..that should get me out of it.

Tobiano. When I've had different RIs I try really hard so as NOT to let my regular RI down. If I hack out I have her voice reminding me in my head. It's when she's there with me I seem to switch my brain off!

I've been ever so sloppy with my riding and the other day when the OH took a video I almost cried I was that angry. However later on in the week when I re-took said video I was impressed on how much I'd improved with my own butt kicking. Still plenty of work but I looked less like a sack of spuds.

I get so paranoid about my riding before going to see my RI unless I feel I'm up to her mark. I think it's good for me though, means I'm always trying to better myself.

Just how I feel right now. Here's hoping that next time I will try harder. I'll have a week off now as off to Cyprus with hubby's new job. I'm planning to have a hack out or two while I'm there and maybe have a lesson. I'll do me good to have a new set of eyes on my riding I think.

I hear you! In that case she sounds like a great RI. And I reckon you have butt kicked yourself so the next vid will be much better. You can show us before and after!!
