My dearest darling D1 is a wimp in the cold :(. Not her fault poor lass, she has Reynauds.

Need to keep her waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarm!

She kills zips though...

Will have to be extra warm if we move to Aberdeenshire!!  :D

Needs to be long, and good for riding in, and preferably dark coloured (apparently she's a semi-Goth, or some such thing, I lose track :D).

So any ideas or suggestions would be much appreicated :D

Oh, price, well. I don't want to think about that bit

ETA: she's about a size 12, due mainly to needing to get x number of layers underneath!

i've always found Musto stuff great, as long as you pick the waterproof rather than showerproof or rainproof versions. well worth the money imho.
e.g. the Long Paddock Jacket
http://www.musto.com/fcp/product/Ou...ts/LONG-PADDOCK-JACKET/161?colour=poppy-shale

having just got caught out in a flipping monsoon, and the jacket i thought was waterproof turned into a sponge after 5 mins of deluge, i'm looking for just the same sort of thing... only thing is, unless she's going to have reflectives/luminous etc over the top for road work maybe dark colour isn't the best idea (great camouflage, unfortunately...)

Was just about to recommend the paddock jacket from musto too. I have it and it is fab, keeps the wind rain and cold out, and is roomy without beeing bulky (I'm usually a 10 - 12 and got the 10 in this, plenty big enough) so you can get extra layers or a body protector under it. If you shop around you can get last seasons colours for really decent prices.
If she suffers with cold and you fancy treating her then I would also be tempted to get her neoprene wellies too. I have muck boots tyne sport and they are just amazing! Even in the depths of winter I never had even slightly chilly feet! (they used to be v painful and dead cold in about 30 mins in anything else!).

Thankies all :D

Will go investigate Musto :). I do like there things, in fact, there's a fleece lined one on the chair next to me and I'm wearing a Musto top lol.

K - her Exo goes over the top, then a large high viz goes over the top of that :D. She don't care. Works on the basis that she'd rather been seen and in one piece, than trendy and flattened lol. There's some hope for the lass :D

GG - she has the Muckboots, but like mine, they've split and her feet, whilst warm, get wet now :(. Only had them a year. I offered to get her some Dubarry's but she no want them. I guess that'll be my next post lol. D2 is having Dubarrys to wear to the yard and walk the dog in; she tends to get too warm though, so it's fun trying to match each child's requirements :D

Thank you for your suggestions :D

Blast. Card ready and primed, but they only have a size eight and a size 18 in the Paddock jacket :(

Like the longer one, but she cycles to the yard (and will do 'till we move), so that won't work. Nice coat though!

Off to sulk.

If she's layering, you could buy a larger pac-a-mac style thing from somewhere like Millets in a 14 and she could wear a zillion hoodies underneath? Was sailing last week and thats what I did and managed to stay really warm and dry despite torrential downpours! And for boots I'd go for the plain joddie boot type things and get them a size or so too big and wear loads of socks. I reckon it's layers which keep you warm... If she is a really cold person (my sister is another... rather amusing really) I'd recommend a http://www.millets.co.uk/clothing/men/accessories/product/014485.html as A wore one under her hat all winter and claims it kept her extra warm...

I have this and I love it ,love it, love it. I would marry it if I could/ Had it for about 2 years and its still going strong. It has an elastic thingy round the bottom as well so you can lift it to stop it getting the saddle. Only drawback is no hood but its big enough for you to put something underneath. I'm a size 12 and I think mine is a small, but don't quote me on that, I'll check for you if you want

I think the above is the newer logo though

If it was me I would get this one

http://www.ingatestonesaddlery.co.u...llips-Musto-Training-Jacket-Black-104870.Aspx

or http://www.saddler.co.uk/shop.html?cr=76&pr=5711&pdesc=new_cruz_riding_jacket_by_just_togs

Ta hun :D

I'm thinking she needs something with down in and totally waterproof and breathable...

Given that she's unlikely to grow any more, I'm tempted to go to a walking/climbing type place and get one of those types.... Might have to take out a mortgage though (remembering how much I used to pay for that sort of gear - and people think horse gear is expensive!).

Hm.

Considerations :D

I am another fan of Ornelli Prospelli they are well worth the money there padded jacket and trousers are worth every single penny. There trousers will be great for cycling as they have big velcro bits on the legs to make them nice and tight wont let cold or wet in and wont let heat out. Im a cold person and i boil in my ones.

Also they have been aberdeenshire tested already and i give them a 10/10!!! I have had mine for about 6 years now and im still cosy!!

Ignore the rubbish you find in equestrian outlets - made for fashion NOT function - I mean why the foook do they have to embrioder everything so the sodding water gets in???? - get yourself into a shooting/country outfitters where they make stuff DESIGNED to be worn all day in whatever the weather can throw at it!!!!!

Long, dark, waterproof and warm.

Dryzabone stockman's coat with the wool liner. I have Highland blood, so I don't mind the cold and it's much too warm for me, even this last winter with 6" of snow on the ground.

Mind you, up on the East coast it can get pretty chilly.

This. Is. Incredible. I tried them at your horse live I think it was. Bliss in a jacket.

I don't know about how waterproof they do them... (but you'd just steam off any excess :p ) maybe get the gilet and..um.. buy a coat to go on top.

I haven't answered your question but I have warmed your child :D

Thank you N! I've been on their website and sent them an email, enquiring the best combination for D1 :D

Thank you all for all your suggestions :D

I'm currently thinking a Blaze body warmer (literally lol), with the usual layers, and a mountaineering type jacket (which tend to be lightweight, waterproof and breathable) on top. Also, the heated glooves, boot liners, and scarf...

That should be enough... I hope!

My oh Neil M told me of your post and as a cold one myself I have many suggestions that could help and also a spare long heavy wax an Australian outback similar to drizabone which is surplus to my requirements and will be put on ebay as so many of us do as I have 2 other wax coats which allow me to alternate if one gets soaked (fussy like that). I would also recommend Ariat glacier boots which are thermal and goretex lined and can be purchased in black, I have dubarrys but wouldn't recommend them for riding. I can recommend thermal jodhs ariat polartec ones , socks, gloves - sealskinz winter riding gloves - I am quite a "queen" of gear. If you would like any extra help please pm me and I will do all I can to assist. I am a warm winter rider!!
