When I went to get Roo in from the field on Monday she trotted up to me and was slightly lame, but I couldn't find anything, no stone in foot, no heat/swelling, no cuts etc.
So I turned her out on Tuesday and she seemed fine, so when I brought her in I put her on the lunge to see if she was sound (Noone around to trot up for me) she seemed ok.
This morning I went down and her fetlock was swollen, but solid not fluidy. No heat and she wasn't lame.
Turned her out and it seems to have gone down.
I haven't ridden for nearly 2 weeks and when I last rode her she was slightly lame but worked through it and was fine, she sometimes seems a little stiff.
She has big windgalls so I was wondering if they could have anything to do with it, or if it could be arthritis, or does it just sound like she's knocked it?
Any suggestions? Thanks

I would get your vet to come and take a look.

When we've had horses unhappy at being stabled on box rest. We fence off a tiny area in the field with electric. Put plenty of hay in there, and he can see all his mates, with out the space to do any harm to himself.

I would definitely have the vet to have a look. She is a pretty big, heavy mare after all so it could well be some low level arthritis starting. Am I right in thinking she is in her teens?

another for vet. Beacon had a swelling just above fetlock, he didn't have windgalls so would have probably been touching the fetlock if he had, his turned out to be annular ligament. he wasn't even lame but needed box rest for 6 wks

Fingers crossed for you hun, not nice this time of year either

Would echo the others, my horse had a swollen fetlock and its turned ot to be a tear in her DDFT. Kept seeming to come better and then lame again, only found via MRI. Whilst she was at horsepital they also found an inflamed tendon sheath on hind leg, this wasnt that obvious, so would definitely call a vet. Been on box rest ages and is now doing lots of walking in hand in egg bar shoes after wedges.

Good luck!!
