I have just bought a cart to do up, and I need some wheels and shafts for the cart. Ideally second hand wheels (about 40"), as I am on a budget, and (I have been told) some shafts that you shape yourself to put on the cart.

I keep on looking on ebay, but nothing really seems to come up. Has anyone got any ideas where else I could look?

Do you need wooden wheels or metal, if they are wooden have the ones on it done up, buying them second hand can be dodgy as paint can cover up all sorts of problems. There are wheel wrights around who will do them but it will be expensive, shaft blanks can be bought. Reading carriage sales are on the 4th November and you should be ab le to get them there.

There is nearly always a guy at Reading Carriage Sales selling shaft blanks, or you can speak to him and order specific shape/size blanks (eg swan neck). Wheels may be more difficult. Neither shafts nor wheels will be cheap.

WSe just had a repair done bu him, one spoke and part felly replaced and it was £370. The last set of wheels we had repaired, new spokes, fellys and re-rubbered was £1000 and that was about £10 years ago. There is a guy near Oxford as well, not sure what his name is though.
