Please send me some confidence!

Im normally rather confident and will ride through most things but one horse I have has worried me no end (one issue after another) and Im.not sure I want to get on.

There's absolutely no ridden reason for me feeling like this, she's been very good except for the last.time I rode she was very nappy (on Xmas day) but a couple days later she had an enormous abscess in her hind hoof.

So I need to get on but I keep making excuses.... its too windy.... its raining....etc... I've long reined and she's foot perfect. Ahhh hate feeling so unconfident!

Take your time, don't rush yourself but I'm sure you'll be in for a pleasant surprise from your girlie on the next ride - its time to have some fun and enjoy yourself :)

Must be the Christmas Day effect! My OH kindly gave me a beautiful new exercise sheet for Christmas that of course I had to immediately try out...not realising that my boy had not ever had one on before! He was very fresh anyway and newly clipped - recipe for disaster...he was on his tippy toes all the way round and kept looking round at the the rug and doing doggy shakes! Then I asked for a trot and he put his head down between his knees and did the most almighty buck to try and get the damned rug off

Luckily I stayed on - but haven't dared put the exercise rug on again (Ebay watch this space!) and obviously accused OH of attempting to kill me on Christmas day :D

But it did worry me slightly especially as we then had the snow so I couldn't get out on him. But I assure you my lovely boy has been fine and is back to his lovely self, as I'm sure your mare will be now that her abscess has cleared. Can you try riding in a school first or some safe area, maybe with a friend or instructor there? Or someone on another horse? And if your mare hasn't been doing much for a few weeks then you'll only be walking anyway so no pressure to do anything more adventurous until you've got your confidence back.

Good luck, be brave, and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Wait for a nice sunny still day, even if it is cold, lead out in hand and then mount and ride back home or long-rein and then go out straight away round the same route. You'll be fine!
