So my cheeky 5 yr old thinks its far more fun to throw his water around his stable rather than drink it!! 3x this week ive had to turf his bed out!!!

Anybody got any bright ideas to stop him? Hes doing it cuz hes bored!! But hes got a treat ball and 2 licks hanging up!!! I cant fill his stable with toys cuz then there will be no room for him!!!

So far ive tried his bucket in a tyre but he still picks it up by the handle! Ive moved it to different corners of his stable as i thought it might have been in his way (hes a big lad in a normal sized stable) this has all failed! Im loathed to use a corner bucket for 2 reasons 1) he drinks alot and i dont think it will hold enough for him and 2) he plays football with his current corner bucket which has his dinner in!!

So can anyone suggest anything else?? Im going to nail it to the floor soon!! :D

I have a square tub trug that can be wedged into a corner behind two breeze blocks to hold it there, if full they cannot move it easily and with one handle cut off, the one away from the wall, there is nothing to grab hold of, it cured one of mine, only problem is emptying it if they do not drink much.

Get a tubtrug that fits tightly inside a big tyre - lorry tyre is good and heavy, then cut the handles off. Makes it tricky to empty but stops them moving it around.

Or get a rubber over the door manger and drill holes through it and the door, then use large penny washers and bolt it on.

I have a good tub trug type huge bucket that you clip the handle on to move but can remove it after, i think it was from the company that make tubs and buckets out of car tyre rubber

I also have a rectangular one similar to what Be Positive describes above, i use it for my pigs as they are quite heavy and stop them throwing them about!

There are a few non spill feeders on the market but of course they are too shallow :(

Thanks for the replies guys!! Ill get searching for square buckets!! The tyre idea is good except lorry tyres are huge and it would take up too much space so he wouldnt be able to lie down!! Hes such a silly boy! Doesnt touch the water bucket in the field!!!!

You could tie the handle of a sturdy rubber type bucket to a cunningly placed tie ring. Not completely vandal proof but less messy!

Sounds like he doesn't find the toys you've left him entertaining, and he prefers playing with a bucket. So give him an old bucket instead.

If he ignores it and still throws the water bucket around, he's saying something about how he feels about it in particular - that might be more of a challenge to work out :D He may well prefer the feeling of wet bedding underfoot - we think horses want to be dry and cosy, they may think differently :D

I had this problem with one of mine, I now use a flat backed bucket that I hang to the wall on a clip hook, (like a tie ring but with a clip instead of a ring) it has certainly worked for mine, and it doesn't take up any space either.

This was EXACTLY what I was about to suggest. I have known people to use it with success.
