I have just noticed that there are three spiders on my ceiling. Two of these spiders are in a corner - one is about 2cms big, (short and fat) and the other is a big gangly one with about 30 babies in her web. I can't work out whether I find it cute or a bit scary! I don't want to disturb or kill any or the spiders, but I was just wondering if there was anyway I could move them without killing any of the babies as they are all about the size of a half grain of rice!

Someone need Spyda advice?!! I'm here *Waves* :D

Seriously though, there's no way of moving the spiderlings at this stage without hurting them. The 'mother' spider will guard her babies until they hatch, then they'll all disperse. Where they all go, who knows - but it doesn't mean you'll be inundated. The baby spiders will simply disappear. And if you don't want further hatches, evict Mummy spider as soon as her spiderlings hatch.

Spyda I know you were a Spider pro from the moment you said Spiderlings (which is a very adorable word btw!) Ok looks like I will have to just put up with sharing with Spiders for a while! Shame they don't pay rent. Just out of interest how long do they take to "fly the nest" if you will..?

Hard to say how long they'll be in residence. Some spiderlings can hatch within a month of being laid but others, and this includes the house spider, take months! In this case you could be waiting until next spring.. they usually lay around September time and then hatch in the following April/May when the days are longer and the weather milder. You could be in for the long haul! :D

Maybe the Dyson is the way to go!

Spiders are okay.

However, I feel that my whole life is full of undignified moments that involve running from or trying to evict harvestmen and craneflies from various locations. Just this past weekend, I was pleading for assistance from members of my mountaineering club to help remove a harvestman from the outside of my tent. They laughed at me. I had to uproot a large plant and nervously brush the thing off the tent. I have been seen at many stables -- they love stables -- trying to evict them with brooms or any other suitably long object. They're horrible. But craneflies are even worse, because they fly and turn around and dive bomb you when you're trying to chase them out of your room or worse, your tent.

ew ew ew ew ewwwww! I hate spiders! Strictly NO spiders allowed anywhere inside. We have two huge spiders on the window in the tack room, which just happens to be right next to my stuff, i hesitate and feel sick everytime i have to pick up my bridle but of course no one else is bothered by them so no one will get rid of them for me :( and i am not going anywhere near them so i won't get rid of them myself. they are horrible, disguisting things that just scare me with all their legs everywhere and their horrid webs, they're just ewwww.
Weirdly though, i really like big fluffy tarantulas, they're lovely, so nice and fluffy and light and you can stroke it and its so soft :) i could easily have one as a pet :D

You may catch them doing that parachute thing that happens in Charlottes Webb *tries desperately not to cry*.

We had one roughly the size of a Clydesdale in our kitchen sink, I photographed it and Facebook friends were divided on whether I needed a saddle or a cannon.

We had the most humungous spider on the wall in lounge last night the fear it instilled in me made me feel quite queasy.
Oh laughed couldn't believe how frightened I was.
He got it & took it outside, I said no don't put it there it will come back in.
But he had squashed it as he said it had bit him!
So I suggest get the Hoover before they get topic big.

We had a nest in corner of bedroom I was watching for months. Then they just disappeared one day.... Never saw any 'lings, nor mummy again.

I did though once find two dead ones close together with sticky grey stuff stuck on them... Do spiders fight?
