Hey guys

This is going to sound like a long shot but if you dont try youll never get where.
Yesterday I had almost 3 near-misses and one incident where my mare and I ended up in a thorn and nettles hedge to get out the way of a driver that wouldnt slow down, we were ok I was cut from head to toe with thorns and she has nettle rash and a few thorns here and there but could have been worse. I had a few before but now I want to do something about it for all of us

I am writing to my local MP who from personal experience has been very helpfull to ask him to be our voice in parliament to try and convince government to have an advert put together to show in rural areas to make drivers aware of horse and riders on roads like they did the 'Think Bike' adverts.

Some people are pure A$$ holes but others I think just know no different.

I have a few statics from BHS online but a few examples of people stories would help in my argument

Thank you

Please report these incidents on the www.horseaccidents.org.uk web site.
The BHS have produced an advert which has been shown on t.v. but to get it shown more need more funds to do it. Join the BHS as a Gold member to show your support.
Also I strongly advise wearing Hi-Viz when riding out especially a long sleeved Hi-Viz jacket so that other road users can see your hand signals.

It's a while ago now but horse and I ended up, upside down, on the roof of a car. The car wasn't speeding per se. It just never moved over as it passed. If you want the fuller story, do PM me.

I was walking my oldie up a track, wide enough for a tractor. About 10 yards from the next place there was room to pass I met a tractor. It couldn't be bothered to wait and forced my old boy onto a 6" wide piece of grass next to a stock wire fence. The grass collapsed together with the fence. My oldie ended up standing in the field with all four feet through the stock wire.

Luckily he did not panic and I got him out with a lost shoe and a couple of scrapes. One of the other two and it could have been fatal, they would have paniced.

The only good news was the field and fence belonged to the tractor driver :D so they ended up having to put up a new fence and restore the lane.

Dont need to tell you what I called him to his face, and still do if this incident is ever mentioned.

What a barsteward, glad you were both ok, id have struggled not to punch him, if it had been my oldie put at risk like that by such a twonk

There are loads on here that know my story, so sorry to repeat it!

I was riding my loan horse, with my friend(who owned him) riding my new horse. We were hit by a speeding car, going around 60mph. Benson (loan horse) died at the scene and Charlie (new horse) was put to sleep 8 weeks later from his injuries. My friend had cuts and bruises, and I broke my back. We both suffered (and still suffer) with horrendous trauma from the accident. The driver of the car was banned for 3 years, 150 hours community service and a 9 month suspended sentence.

I was hacking up the road one morning when a white van came round the corner, speeding. My horse was startled and stopped; when the van kept coming without slowing, he panicked and ran backwards. When the driver realised he was going to hit us, he slammed on the breaks. Fortunately by the time the vehicle made contact with my horse, it was going slowly enough not to cause any damage.

When asked wtf, the driver declared that he thought that slowing down abruptly would scare my horse even more . I'm guessing he thought he could speed by without consequence? I was wearing hi vis, and the driver definitely saw me.

Thank you guys for your stories this gives me a little more for my argument/appeal.
MY local MP is very good and for those who know my story will know that he being a torri MP was most helpfull and proactive for help me and my family so one hopes that this time he will be as pro-active again
