My friend has a 15hh coloured cob who came in from the field lame last saturday. He had a swollen fore leg from below the knee. warm but not really hot.
She was advised to box rest him (i agreed with this).
A day or so later he had his feather clipped off and underneath in his heal was deep lesions and thick scabs.
I treated the heals with a very good mud fever product (i swear by it, my mare can suffer very badly but due to this she has not had any!!)
The YO insists it's a pulled tendon/ligament.
I am 99% sure it's infected mud fever.
The swelling has gone down but not gone completely, he is not so lame now. They have been putting an ice boot on twice a day and i have been treating the mud fever everyday.
YO says not mud fever but only cob scabby heel.
Please what do you think is wrong with him (i'm being faught on what i think it is and my advise to call the vet has fallen on deaf ears!!!)
Very frustrating!!!
Please help!
Thanks xxx
