Getting depressed that I have no horse for this season. Would love to go out on some hirelings in Staffs/Cheshire, but unfortunately being a student does not put me in the financial situation to afford such a luxury.
:( Know this is a pretty pointless thread, but just wanted to declare my sorry self to you all..... :D

Anyone else missing out on all the fun?

I feel your frustration :/

We're in a slightly different position in that out of 6 horses, neither my OH or me had a horse to take to the Opening Meet :O

I felt the same way after my horse did his ddfts in.
Months of getting him fit and me aswell.
So depressed about it I brought another horse to hunt on and just getting him fitter enough to start next week.
Let's hope no more injurys coming my way.

I have my two....but lack of time and finances to do it regularly this year by the the time I sort cap and transport hire out! So opposite frustration!

Been for the last couple of weeks locally...hoping to go again in next week or two.

If anyone has transport but no horse...welcome to take the other one with me lol!

Ohh CS, if only my freelander would tow two! I'd be down in a flash!

I actually HAVE a horse to hunt, just lack of time with a small baby in tow, so enjoying a bit of foot following whilst slinging a willing friend up on board in the hope that I can get a few days in here and there when I have some pennies!

Stop feeling sorry for yourself and get out on foot! Make friends with what are probably some of your hunt's most loyal supporters. Take time to watch the hounds work instead of spending the day hanging onto your horse and having another swig from your hipflask!

2 pregnancies (and the resulting babies) and 2 injuries have meant that the last 6 years have only seen me hunt one full season on a horse. The rest I have managed to get out on a horse once or twice but done the rest of the season in a car. I've followed 3 different packs, and a foot subscription is much cheaper than a riding subscription! Every pack has a devoted bunch of foot followers who come out regardless of the weather, don't need to worry about getting a horse ready, and they rarely miss a meet. In my current hunt, one of the followers is a true hound person, and knows the breeding and background of every hound, It has been a real education to hunt with her. You can often be very helpful too as a foot follower - you can be the person in the right place at the right time to hold a tricky gate open, Stop and thank traffic, catch a loose horse, or give the huntsman a much needed piece of information. All very valuable stuff.

I often have a car-full and we take a picnic and hot drinks, binoculars, an OS map and a camera. My children love the opportunity to off-road (obviously with the landowners' permission, and giving consideration to the going.) I think in the last 6 years I have learnt more about hunting than in the preceding 30 years on a horse, and I now get invited to all the best hunt dos, as they are mostly organised by the foot followers!

This year I am finally not injured, not pregnant, and don't have a newborn baby. I am back on a horse again. But the time spent on foot has not been time wasted, and I've enjoyed every minute.

i was in similar position as hunter did his DDFT in May so only just coming back into work.

I put an ad on the hunt facebook site and had quite a bit of interest. Hunted an ex NH racehorse last week and have the ok to take him again if I want. Got another new one this Sunday that should hopefully be available again if all goes ok. Also got another one I did some jumping on over the summer. There are always people out with the hunt asking around for someone to ride their horses so I put the word out with everyone and they send them my way!
