I officially HATE flies :-(

Just been up to check my boy, friend checked him this am and as it was forecast to rain today she didn't put his fly rug on. I've just gone up as it's suddenly gone warm and he was covered in them, all over his body and face!!! Poor boy looked so fed up, he's now got fly rug, mask (which he hates but for once didn't mind it) and fly spray. He just seems to be a fly magnet for some reason, although it may be that he's big and black.

For some reason colour does seem to matter! My dark liver chestnut always feels hotter to the touch than my bright chestnut, and he also seems to have way more than his share of flies. Poor lad!

its gross. ive had enough of them. all this warm wet weather we've had has made them even worse. i have resorted to getting up tp ride at 6am and the horse flys are still out then. i sprayed one the other day with fly spray and it literally didnt move. does anyone know if they are imune to fly spray???
add to add to it, just got home and my house is having a thunder fly invasion. nice

My girl too, she is a dark chestnut and a complete fly magnet, mainly her head though. She wears her fly mask all the time during the summer, apart from when riding. Even if she gets her mask off (which she sometimes does) her eyes get covered in flies, they puff up,the whites turn all red and they water!! We are also combating sweet itch under her mane, she has a patch about the size of the palm of a hand, but she is so hot and sweaty during the summer, just standing in her field she sweats!

I have just had a phone cal from OH to say 'come and sort your pony out, he is going balistic'

He thought he had been got by wasps as he was under the apple trees, went out to find in running in blind panic away from the bloody horse flies.


Now rugged and sprayed.

I think we should start a campaign to ban flies

Ive just been and slathered mine in spray and i tell you i must have been bitten about twenty times whilst i was tackling thisles.

ive got dead horse fly splodges all of my leggings. looks like the skys about to open though so should cool the hosses down and get rid of them for a bit.
