I Paid it once!

My Yard owner is a bit dappy and does forget things quite a bit. Like to bring in the odd horse or feeding at out of ordinary times.

But i paid my livery bill with the first week of the month, in cash as i dont have a chq book and its how she prefers it. I never have asked for a reciept and in the past there has never been a problem.

However this morning i got a catty comment of "dont suppose you have my livery money?" I was so shocked, i said that i gave her the money in an evelope as usual and she told me to check my bank???

I know that i paid her but what now? She has never been like this before and i really cant afford to pay it twice, esp as it Christmas!

Help/advice please!

Im not entirely sure she keeps a record of who has paid and who who hasnt?!

Its odd that you never think about how proffessional people are with money or how they chose to keep an eye on their money.

Argh dnt know what to do!

do you always pay on time? if you do suggest that you have never missed / been late with payment so perhaps she has forgotton you paid

Oh dear. If I were you I'd think back to exactly where you were/ what the weather was like/ anyone who saw you/ something in particular she might've said, so you can jog her memory. Definitely get a receipt in future!!

This happened to me with a bill for around £60, I gave it to YM and she didnt write it in the book. Luckily she believed me.

From then on I always write a cheque. It happened again with £120 bill, I had the cheque stub to prove I paid it and she could then check. My livery can be quite disorganised with money, probably due to the fact that there are about 50 of us and we just had them money/cheque when we see them about the yard.

I would just mention how prompt you are and that you have never missed a payment. Can you remember where you were and what time you handed her the money? This may trigger her memory.

And could you set up to pay by Standing Order each month from now on, instead of cash, to avoid the risk of this happening again? Just in case she doesn't have a receipt book to hand when you pay her next, if she does decide to issue any...

you're most likely to remember right- she has to remember lots of livery payments, you only have to remember yours

maybe you should point that out to her?
