I am a riding school rider, so ride once a week. Yesterday I purchased a new Harry Hall Legend Hat. I now realise it is only a BSEN1384, and doesn't have the additional PAS015 rating. Is this a big deal? Is there a big difference if they don't have this additional rating???
How often does everyone replace their hats if nothing untoward has happened to them? Every few years?
Thank you - this is my first post and theymight be really obvious questions.......

Welcome to the forum!

There are many different hat certifications mainly because different bodies produce them. This is a good summary of what is what:

I replace by hat every 2 years or after every fall no matter how minor (damage to the hat is not always visible). There are higher standards of hat safety (although they do not necessarily correspond to the different standards if you see what I mean) which you may want to invest in depending on your level of risk aversion and the riding activities you take part in (e.g. cross country), but the main thing is to have the hat correctly fitted by someone who knows what they are doing.

I looked this up last night as my son has now grown out of his, I think from what I read, to do xc with the pony club, you need a PAS015 (no peak) hat, but for other mounted activities the BS EN 1384 is accepted.
