How can I find work somewhere? I'm 16 and based in Devon, and I need a part time job to fit in around 6th form which I'll be starting in september...really I need to be earning a min. of £30 a week, preferably more like £100 a week, but I can only work before/after school, at the weekends and holidays. I'm on yard and groom, and haven't had any calls, and I scour the job websites regularly.

I've also been looking at any kind of job, not necessarily horsey, and applied for loads of shop assistant positions and other low level min. wage job, only to be told previous experience is necessary? How can you get previous experience if no shops will let you work there? Does anyone have any idea what I could do to earn money, anywhere else I could look for jobs? I'm about to put out some ads in local papers and in shop windows advertising my services.

Any advice? :)

Could you work as a waitress in local pub, when I was 15-18 I worked part time at Sainsbury's, then retail shop, then as waitress then bar work when turned 18, difficult times to get work I imagine though.

Any advice? :)

Knock on doors. Quite literally.

The problem that you are facing is that as someone young in a reccession you are "competing" against old folk who do have experience and who tend to be more reliable than teenagers. This is not personal towards you but from experience younger folk tend to be less reliable as they do not have the same responsibilities as an adult. Do not expect much either.

Bang on doors, go and visit the places you would like to work take your CV with you and dress neatly, be enthusiastic, friendly and push across any experience you do have even if it was just helping out or what you did on work experience. Talk to as many people as you can as well and really promote yourself. Do not winge or complain about not being able to find work but press the fact that you really do want to.

My first job was full time and paid £400 per month! I worked all hours under the sun for 6 months then becasue others saw I was working hard I was able to leave and start freelancing which brought in more. You have to be able to prove yourself.

cleaning - I am not joking they are charging £10 per hour near us and will do the minimum of 4 hours. Raking it in.

Have you got any fast food chains around you - they are usually very good at taking on students. You'd probably only get weekend shifts during term time but at least it would be something and you'd get more shifts during your school holidays.

My bosses student son has been working at McD's this way for the past 2 years and they have been very fair to him.

I hope you get something soon. I'm having the same problem and am 28. I have been out or work since April and it's really getting me down.

Good luck with your search.
