Sorry in advance for self indulgent post - but I am sooo pleased with my boy today!
I sent Roo away to be broken in earlier on this year, and after quite a long few weeks (he is a bit of a nervy wotsit - not entirely his fault as he is arab!!
) he came home to me in May. Almost as soon as he had come home to me, I was taken into hospital, and have been on and off being poorly ever since. I had ridden him twice while he was down being started - but both times I had got on after the girl who was working him and already ridden him.
Because of this, in the last 3 months, I have probably lunged him about 10 times, and probably not all that effectively as I was feeling a bit rough - but bless him, he has always been a good boy while I was lunging him. My plan was going to be to send him back down to be restarted again for a couple of weeks once I was feeling a bit healthier and felt that I could carry on with riding him on.
About a month ago I started Roo on a calmer - which has made such a huge difference in his outlook - he no longer feels the need to jump 6ft in the air every time someone moves around him!! I lunged him yesterday (I was having a feeling good day so was making the most of it!), and he was such a star, as this was the first time I had done anything with him for about a month. So today, I rescue remedied him and me, and took the plunge and got on.
He had previously got himself a reputation for having a bit of a bouncy bottom for the first few minutes you got on him, and if he didn't actually bounce, he would put his back right up. But today - he didn't do any of that at all. I had lunged him to start with - and then we had a walk and trot around - just on the lunge today though! He was brilliant - moved off when I asked, trotted very politely, and most importantly stopped when I asked him to.
I really expected him to be a heathen today, so purposefully did not ask for any pics to be taken - so apologies on that front - but I am just so pleased that we did it! I think I have been convincing myself for weeks now that he would buck me off - and he didn't!!
Sorry for the long post - but am soo happy right now - and feeling a little healthier today as well, which helps a lot!!
Glass of rose and sandwiches and wheaty snacks for every one that gets to the end of this post!! (I can't have any of those things on my pesky new diet - so you guys might as well have them for me!!
