I rode my Scoobers today! One of the instructors got on him first so I could see what he's like, and he walked nicely but when she asked him to trot he kept doing little skippity half-bucks and going into canter, which I think would probably have had me off!

She got him going better quite quickly though, and then I got on and had a walk round in the school. I know it seems like a step backwards to not dare to trot him, but I'm not fussed - I know that as we get to know each other (and as his initial fizziness goes away!) we'll make loads of progress.
He's ridiculously comfy (not surprising, since he has no withers and his back is like a table-top!) and I felt like I could ride him for hours! I'm so happy, I can't wait to get back on tomorrow!

I've put loads of photos in the PG, but I'll just pop one in here because I like it and I think we look very well suited.

Now Scooby is my kind of ned! Well done you, I know you are going to have loads of fun together!

PS, sounds like he is built just like my Bodey cob!

Well done!!

Coloured cobs like to try it on and their favourite trick is to throw in the odd half buck etc when going into canter!!

Just keep your leg on and ride him through it (easier said than done I realise!) and he will give up!! Just remember he is a hairy overgrown cheeky pony!! Treat him like one and you will be fine!! You will soon get your confidence on him - look at the smile on your face!!

YAY! i love the grin on your face!

well done you, and like slinky says... just ride him through any mini bucks. if they're little ones, he's not trying to get you off... and on board you'll barely feel them.

good luck! keep that smile going and your confidence will grow.

Thanks for all your comments, I'm so happy everyone else loves him too! I know he's not trying to get his rider off when he does silly little bucks - I think it's just a mixture of excitement at being in a new place, plus his old owner rarely worked him and when she did, she let him get away with murder. He definitely is a cheeky little pony!

I can't wait to canter him - I'm told it's reeeally smooth and comfy!

No hot choccies for me though - I've decided that if I'm going to be making Scoobs lose weight, I might as well join in myself! We can get slim together in time for shows next summer.
