I so regret deep littering now!

I love your new avatar!

it does work better if you have a tidy horse, takes me 5 mins to skip Frank in the morning (all in a pile) and about 20 mins to take the wet out of the weekend (straw). It takes my mum about double that because Cal is a bit of messy bugger!

Are you sure you're deep littering properly guys??? My deep litter shavings bed has been down 2.5 yrs now and is as fragrant, soft and easy as it was about 2 weeks after I'd started it. My YO's have been down 6 years.

My deep litter is on a concrete base and is about 8" deep, covering the back 2 thirds of the stable. Front third has rubber matting. In the winter, when Sunny is in overnight, I get through a bale every 5 or 6 days, and that's generous. New bale goes in as a bank at the back. Every day, poos come out along with any obvious surface wet. Scrape the surface with the shavings fork to get it almost level, then pull down a new clean layer from the back and spread over the whole surface. Bang it all down firmly with the back of the shavings fork. People lean over my stable door and cry at my bed! I cry too when Sunny has been in overnight and messed it all up lol. Will take pic tomorrow.
