I swear I ride worse during my lessons!

I don't know if I'm trying too hard or concentrating too much but the last few lessons I've had I've ridden like a plum to the point where I forget what diagonal I'm on, can't tell left from right and my legs and arms flap around like a chicken! I don't normally ride like that!

I'm good at learning from my lessons and putting it into practice when I'm schooling on my own but I think maybe my pea size brain can only handle so much hence when I'm learning something new I forget the most basic things!

Anyone else find this? I found myself apologising to the instructor and proclaiming that this isn't how we usually ride! Fortunately she knows us well enough now to know that we're not always that bad!

It's just so frustrating - I feel that it holds us back because the instructor has to spend half the lesson going over the basics again before we can progress!

Sorry, had a bit of a crappy lesson tonight and needed to have a rant! It's made worse by the fact that due to holidays etc I've not got another lesson for a month now! :(

Def trying too hard, I do it all the time!!

I am so desperate to 'get it perfect' that I get tense and it all goes to pot. When I have a chilled lesson, talking (helps me remember to breath!) laughing (relaxes me) filling my instructor in on whats been happening it all goes so much better.

So chill out and have fun, so much better all round...............I just need to remember that myself

I think your right - I got so tight through my arms asking C to soften and it was only when I relaxed when chatting to my RI that he softened! To be fair, pony was a bit of a toad tonight too which didn't help!

Lots of schooling over the next month to prepare for our next lesson!

I dont know if its the same with you, but what Im finding is when Im in a lesson, if I feel something going wrong, or start to get stressed, I panic and shut down! No amount of shouting can help, and my riding just goes *phht*

The thing Ive found that helps most is just safely coming back to walk, organising myself, and picking up the task again with a clear mind.

Sorry for my little tangent there :o xx

Not only me but my horse does too - he is a bugar when my instructor is in the arena with us, he is really really hard work - but when im alone with him he goes like an angel, i never need my whip when its just me and
him - i think my nervousness crosses to him - i hate beign watched doing anything!

Ahhh I know the feeling..not just you :) I think I feel more pressure to do things right and when it's not working I get more stressed and it gets even worse as I tense up! And I worry alot about being watched and trying to get it right for my instructor!

Glad it's not just me then!

And yes I swear pony plays up more when I'm in a lesson!

Strangely I'm not as bad when out competing although at the last competition my RI was there talking me through the warm up and I rode like a plum then too!

On a lighter note!

You should all come down here and go out on the pop with me and drink loads of Blue Wkd the night before your lesson.

When I go out the night before mine I usually end up coming home very late and full of Blue Wkd then I have to get up about 5 minutes later to go have my lesson.

My " morning after the night before " lessons are always superb, both my horse and I perform much better than normal! lol

Sounds like a plan - but I'm on the cider not the blue wkd! :D
