Playing ponies this morning with my filly. She has grown quite a bit and squeezing her into her black pony sized head collar for a few weeks I thought sod it, she needs a bigger one!
I knew I had an older cob sized pale blue one, so put that on her. She looks very pretty!! And oddly enough it didn't swamp her like I feared it might. I was admiring her prettiness, when I realised the old blue one was in fact my old pony Juno's one. I had cleaned it, so it was more blue than I remember!
Now, as fate - in my eyes would have it, a year ago TODAY we had Juno put down via the hunt, in our old field at our old yard. Juno was wearing this blue headcollar at the time. It has always been Juno's head collar, she arrived with us - ironically in June 1991 wearing it. She was sold in May 1995, wearing it, passed onto 3 more homes at least, and came back to us in 1998 - still with it and on that sunny morning a year ago she left us -still with it.
I feel very honoured yet slightly sad that Juno will continue to live on through something seemingly so simple.
Strange that it happened today of all days..
