Dan as many know has had a series of lameness issues namely bone spavins and arthritis in hocks and navicular in front feet which resulted in two years off but he has *touch wood* been sound about 10 months now although I have retired him from showjumping so he has to be a dressage pony only now even though only 13. But he seemed to forget this today.

One of the large hay fields is currently open for liveries to use and as it has a good grass covering me and Sarah decided to take our boys in there to school up and down the slopes for balance and to get out of school for change.

Anyway started by walking round entire huge field, on attempt to trot we just bounced in a very tigger like way which he tried to convince me was canter

Did some good schooling work then decided at end to take them round field again. Now last week please note we had been in a different field and had a very controlled canter but erm not today

I trotted off in front at which point Dan just lept in the air in a very Spanish Riding school fashion and tried to b*gger off, got him back immediately and cantered on sensibly. Went round field then decided to have one last short canter.

I went first and first two strides seemed good and then we had another movement the spanish riding school would be proud of and we were errr off, cue little me on 17h2 who had only a snaffle in his mouth no martingale and a dressage saddle trying to stop!! Stopped him 'fairly' quickly whilst in fits of giggles because the two 'dangerous' girls we rode earlier were far more safe sane and sensible then the dumb and dumber boys!

Dan seemed to thoroughly enjoy himself though and he is feeling very good at the moment and is finally getting to the point where he is taking the weight behind again especially in his transistions. I think he is objecting to being a pure dressage pony not that I am listening to him in the slightest:p
