I took my dogs for what i thought would be a lovely walk today as i havent had much time l8ly to walk them far so off we went down to he river poppy (collie x) loves the river so as i threw her ball she swam across thr river (which was running quite fast due to all the rain) and back again hooch was right behind her (small lakeland terria) and as he bounded into the river to follow he was briskly swept clean away ..... i was calling hooch hooch!!! in panic i ran in to the river screaming and then down along side it but nothing..... a man came running over to assist but we just couldnt see him and i thought he had gone right down as it was so fast i then saw a quivering heap on a small rock under a bush poor hooie i scrambled into the river holing onto a branch but it broke and i fell under the pressure as i managed to scramble to him he was shaking all over i scrambled back across with him in my arms after falling again and he is home and safe but it was such an awfull fright i will never go near high fast running rivers again.

I am always wary near rivers . I had a similar experience when one of my dogs fell into a drain shaft, though not as frightening as yours cos I could see her although not reach her, and I was scared she was going to slip and go down further. Dogs eh, they certainly like to scare us.

I am so glad things worked out. My first thought was anger though how you could be so stupid as to play by swollen rivers. The most sacred thing we can do for anything be it child or animal is keep them safe. I guess you don't need anyone to tell you that now though.

Glad to hear you're all okay.

Went for a walk with my mother and dogs, some years back. We decided she'd wait for us, while we went around a frosen lake, halfway they probably scented my mother and went across the ice to check her up. Almost over, they went through! Luckily it wasn't so deep so they managed to get up and to my mother, that was screaming both the dogs name and for me to call on them.
When I got to them, not over the ice, mum was furios on ME! For not calling them back while they where through the ice!
But when I said I didn't want to risk them crossing the ice once more, to get back to me, she calmed herself.

from Sweden.
