I caught my 9 yr old gelding eating my mares poo today?
I know foals do it but a 9yr old?

They have (until now) been in seperate paddocks but the battery ran out and they trashed the fence so have been in together for a couple days.
He is on a diet but still has plenty of grass to keep him going and a mineral lick so shouldn't really be lacking in anything.

Any ideas? suggestions? They seem to be enjoying being together so am tempted to leave them that way but maybe not if he continues to eat her droppings.

There are lots of reasons a grown horse may eat his own droppings; boredom, lack of fibre and minerals, habit, if he has been on a course of anti-b's and needs to replenish the good bacteria in the intestines blah blah...the list goes on.

Try giving him probiotics and see if this makes a difference.

Oh just another thought - is the mare in season?
