Have got a friends 10 year old girl staying at the moment, shes pony mad and hasn't got her own, my ponies are brushed, mucked out, all ridden and loooved for hours.
My son just gets on, jumps, gallops, walks away...

I'm 40 now so too old to have my own, perhaps I could lease one?

Anyone got one going? No teenage tantrums please!

You can borrow my little 8 yr old......but i DO want her back!
She cleans tack like you wouldnt believe, mucks out (to a fashion

) and grooms like a pro (plaiting we are still working on but hey she is only 8

)

Sounds like it's more to do with which child already has ponies and has learnt they don't have to appreciate them, than gender (imho).

I know plenty of young girls who are very much spoilt and don't appreciate their ponies, just go to any BSJA jr show.

Oh you can have mine (both!)...

Probably best to say that they are not suitable for novices thought!!

12 and 10 going on 32 and 30.

And I really can't say they are not mareish either.

In fact were they horses they would be in project horses LOL.

Having said that they do make me smile

And I love them lots......

I agree, I would have happily turned up,t acked up and spent the whole day galloping round the countryside only to walk away once finished but my mother would have sold my pony had I behaved like that.

It doesn't matter on the gender of the child, all children should brush and look after their own to the best of their ability. Day dreaming about ponies is optional.

We're not all that good, promise... With me you'd have to put up with watching the worst dressage tests in the world (ever) and tack which gets cleaned for about 30 seconds unless a comp is coming up. With my sister, you'd have to go to every corner of the earth just for a competition, put up with her forcing you to video her jumping terrifyingly big jumps as she travels faster than the speed of light into them and pre-dressage wobbles.

You have my sympathy. My OH is the same as your son. He whirled his lovely horse round doing a bit of jumping then put her back in her stable sweaty

and announced he was going in for a cup of tea

Much barking of orders later he was leading his newly washed horse round the school until she was dry.

Actually I probably shortchanged my sons - they do have to do the work, but would probably prefer not to. However when we are in a hurry it's a lot easier for me to do it! I do notice that 12 yr old son's grooming is a lot more attentive when YO's 12 yr old niece is on the yard

We're moving soon to have the ponies at home and they will definitely be required to help then!

My daughter is useless.....she's an as and when girl...sometmes she's keen, other times she seems to forget she even has ponies.

It sounds as if you and I have a pair then

Could I have her for the summer, you can ahve her back in September? I have 2 lovely ponies for her to luuurve! And I'm hopeless at plaiting so perhaps you could just polish up that skill first? Could we adapt the BHS loan agreement do you think?

Would you like a 15 year old or an 8 year old boy in exchange?

I think you are probably right. He does love his pony, he will go and visit it and hug it but actually looking after it is a no no.

That reminds me, last year took another friends 10 year old for a hack and half way around when my horse was having a complete numpty moment at a leaf, she said 'You know, your horse could really do with some schooling'. I could have throttled her!
smile.gif

My parents sold my pony when I was 14 as I stopped helping with him. I have forgiven them now but it was a hard lesson.

I only do hunting transport!!

I couldn't possibly operate a video thing and I'm a horrible bully when you get nervous!!

Could this be your training though? I'd work on your son, as at least you'd be training him for later on in life!!

I have two, but I need them both, they pretty much run the yard themselves.
But (cough) the younger one?
I did have her when I was 40 ...................

OH has said no way, we have been fighting about it for 8 years now and I have had to concede defeat. On a serious note, I can't inflict a child on him that he doesn't want, but equally what right does he have to tell me I can't have any more?

Is a humungerous bone of contention in an otherwise very happy marriage!

I've been nice and given mine a bay and a chestnut, not a white sock between them, what is there to complain about??
