i want a horse

Feel for you, been there, done it, thankfully got one in the end!

Now I have 3 and still can't ride!!! 1 off work currently, and the other two are yearlings!!!

Keep saving.

the dream is being hung on to! i cant ride at the moment because of medical reasons but when i eventually get out of hospital i might have to reconsider the horse-less situation

you can have mine, just when you look at him and think god you look fab....bam he does something to need some sort of attention from a professional and a few weeks off. this time he has an unknown reason for losing weight won't eat very much so far has cost me £150 vet bill plus at least £70 feed/bedding bill this week alone. so when do you want to come and collect him :D

My friend and I used to save our 1p's and 1/2p's (there, showing my age now) in order to save up for a horse. It would have taken 100 years that way! We got them in the end by other means, and it was definitely worth the wait. Hope your dream comes true soon! :)

It will happen if you make it!!!!!!!!!!

I dont know how old you are, but as a child i really really wanted my own horse - the nearest i got was a teatowel with a horses head on which my dad got for me, thinking it was funny. It wasnt, i used to cry.

I bought my first ever horse last year aged 42 - hold onto your dreams, and if no-one helps you make them happen yourself - big big hugs xxxxxxxxxxxx

So do I....

Have three - one is a retired 13.3hh little grot, but he's now a happy little grot :rolleyes:; one is at the Animal Health Trust being investigated for mysterious lameness; one is now less of a dingbat than she was :D, but I can't ride her due to me being a crock.

Ho hum.

i'm 22 so not really at the saving pennies stage! i had a pony as a teenager but couldnt afford to keep him when i went to uni & he was only 13.3hh (plus i didnt think i would have the time as a student). at the moment i cant have my own because i am in hospital recovering (albeit slowly) from a "serious" illness & so am not allowed to ride at the moment until i am a bit better. when i get out of hospital i am returning to uni for my final year at which point time will be what stops me having a horse although i might reconsider the possibilities. i still have the money from selling my last pony so could afford to buy one & i have enough savings to pay for a years upkeep whilst i do my uni course & then i would be getting a job so finances arn't really the problem, just my health & time.

my thinking though is that having a horse would really help me get through what i am going through at the moment & could really be a motivating factor for continuing treatment (which most days is as close to hell as i have ever experienced) & getting me out of the position i am currently in & stop me ever returning to where i am now! the problem is that when i go back to uni i would only be able to ride at weekends, would this really be fair on the horse? the yard i would be keeping potential horse at has a walker so the horse could get exercise when i am away even if no one can ride it. i have also considered the idea of getting a sharer, but not sure if this would be sensible with a new horse.

if anyone has any opinions on whether this would be possible/ irresponsible i would love to hear them. i wont be able to ride for a few more months so there is no urgency, just want opinions!

thanks for listening to me moan/ contemplate

Sally
