We've had a beautiful 9 month Mastiff pup come into the kennels today. The Lady who brought her in rescued her last week from being mated to a Rotti, purposely, by her owners!!! She's looking for a new home for her, but her own dog's just been diagnosed with bone cancer so she wanted to spend some quality time with him before having him PTS, hence her coming into the kennels.
She is absolutely gorgeous, soft as grease but very nervy, obviously been trained as she knows sit, down and paw, but obviously been belted when she didn't do them as she winces everytime you put a hand up.

I want, I want, I want!!! :D I love Mastiffs!

Now how to convince Landlord, I was thinking, She's only small... ;) :D

Mad! Mad! Mad!:D

The nervousness may well be genetic as it is a known problem in the breed. She may never have been beaten. A nervous Mastiff is a bit of a nightmare tbh. I have one. In fact all of mine have been a bit shy but Tojo is really bad. He is the only one we have not been able to overcome the nervousness with but he is a lot better then he was. He no longer shits himself (literally) when someone visits! It really has been bad in the past and absolutely no reason for it. He has never been beaten. Apparently the nervousness can start as late as a year old. Up to then they can be confident dogs.

But they are lovely dogs and have lovely temperaments in general. Tojo is such a good boy. He just doesnt like people who wear hats, glasses, have two legs etc. :D

But he loves his mummy!:D

As for Emma-May....Next time I WILL have a GSD!:D

Glad the bitch was rescued though.

Shes not nervy in a scared of everything way, she's been abandoned in a strange place with lots of shouty dogs and she's still got a waggy tail and a cuddle for anyone who'll give her the time of day, but its all in a bit of a sucky up grovelly way! So maybe the wincing is just her mastiff-ness, I was going on the fact they must have pretty crap to think it was ok to breed from a 9 month pup!

Apparently she's a Spanish mastiff, although she doesn't much look like one from the pictures I can find!
