After 2 lazy weeks my horse is back in proper work, she had fast hacking and schooling at the weekend and today she had a proper schooling session. Was teaching her the flying change and it was going great. She was cantering very nicely, suddenly triped slightly but didn't even stop cantering just kept going so i didn't make much of it as trips happen. Wasn't lame or anything at all. When i got off i was horrifed, at the point of her shoulder there was a huge lump the size of half a tennis ball, it looked like her bone poped out of place. So obvs started crying, rang my friend whos rang the vet. Weirdly enough, horse was happily walking around its stable and was very pleased when i brought her a slice of hay. Then the all-knowing lovely yard owner comes along, looks at horse tells everyone to calm down and stop being silly, its obviously not a bone as it doesn't hurt her and she wouldn't be able to walk if she dislocated her shoulder, plus it unlikely she dislocated it beacuse of a little trip. Then tells me that it looks like a lump from a kick or possibly an insect bite.
So now i feel really silly for panicking and making a big fuss of something so silly but i never felt so horrible in my life! I actualy felt like it was my fault because i was asking her to do flying changes and i was really cruel. I don't want to feel like that ever again. :(

Silly story over, cookies and hot chocolate for everyone :)

2 things sprimg to mind:
1) You were schooling and nothing was amiss, even the feeling was that she was going really nicely
2) You are, like me, an over-sensitive owner and are, in all likelyhood, putting more meaning on this incident than required.

Both of the above have merged to mean that you, with hindsight, were overly worried. However, I would much rather be that way round than insisting everything is fine and something being wrong.

Don't punish yourself, your horse is lucky that you are that concerned

Imagine how u'd have felt if it was major and u dismissed it. She must have got to u coz ur normally so mellow under pressure! I'll trot her up at 6 and see how she looks anyway x

It could be a bit of bone chipped off.Happened to a friends horse, and he wasnt lame at the time, but is now on and off lame because of it.
Maybe after 2 weeks off,you worked the horse too hard?
