I saw half of the Parelli demo at Windsor today (I couldn't face the second half as I was falling asleep faster than the horses) I learned to wave a lunge whip about the horse (while it slept) I learned to push on its nose to make it walk backwards, I learned how to sit down while the horse trotted aimlessly around in circles on a floppy line and I learned how to bounce a ball around a horse. I'm not sure how I managed previously! I have to say the horses seemed bored as hell except when anyone went near when they put their ears back and looked mean. The dressage horses seemed to be having a lot more fun!

I commend you for actually sitting there to watch it. Secondly I give you a gold star for staying awake for more than 5 minutes. Well done. I bet you wont do it again though will you.

I saw one at the British Open SJ a couple of years ago. It was truly awful.

i saw about 2 minutes of it on Monday and couldnt bear to watch it any more, the horses just looked so pi***d off
not normal, IMO

I am very much a live and let live type of person, and I try VERY hard not to be judgemental of other people, but I saw bits of Parelli demo's at the Royal Show, as their display area was right next to one of the showing rings.

There appeared to be lots of loud music and a whole bunch of women wearing jeans and T shirts (no hats and no shoes in some cases!) sitting bareback (the horses not the women) on horses holding schooling whips in the air. Didn't make an awful lot of sense to me, and I couldn't really get the hang of how it would improve my riding or make my horse any better / happier.

As I say, whatever floats yer boat, but I found it all a bit....pointless (sorry P fans)

Come on every one... Dont you all wish you could earn £40 per hour for waggling a rope.

Load of old crap Sorry would normally scrap rude words

I actually find the hand on face thing to move a horse back quite effective....

Everything in moderation....

I wouldn't buy the stuff or pay through the nose for a course!

However some of the things they say (note - some!) seem to me to be actually basic sound horsemanship in a big cowboy hat.

Other bits not so much. But I am willing to nick the bits that work for me and ignore the rest, that's all I mean....

Seems like you watched but didn't learn anything or maybe you had no intention of learning

There was nothing to learn........ I was really hoping to see something that would change my mind, but I didn't.

This sums it up perfectly to me. Take what makes sense to you and add it to your toolkit from a wide variety of sources; end up with a toolkit that is completely bespoke to you and works for you

I was there too. I laughed when the commentator said he was going to put a song on to help the horses relax into the arena. They all looked half asleep/bored to me anyway. So there I was watching 5 half asleep horses lunged on ropes dragging across the ground to the sound of Take That

No I didn't learn anything, but I would hope my horses would have a better taste in music

I was there yesterday. It was the first Parelli I'd seen except on Youtube and I really tried to be open-minded but those poor horses had no spark left in them, my sister commented that they looked drugged.
I thought it was funny when they were making a big thing of riding with one rein and a halter. Didn't we all do that as kids? (except we didn't feel the need to fling the rope under the horse's nose every 5 mins when changing direction). And the girl jabbing away with her spurs was irritating. Oh well.
The paradressage on the other hand. Wow!
