What with getting married and everything my horses haven't been out anywhere since Gt Tew BE, and they're not in anywhere until Wilton at the end of the month, so to relieve William's "whatever" attitude I took him to Littlebourne today to jump in their open class, and the puissance. He's not been there before, so was pleasantly surprised when what he thought was a bog-standard hack turned into show! There were only 4 of us in the class, and it was about 1m, so it was going to be fun for him. The 1st in missed at the first and went a over t, so then it was us. William bounced round thoroughley enjoying himself and finding it all very easy - it was 2 phase and I let him have a jolly round the j-o so we finished with a pretty fast time. The next went in and had 4 faults, and the last went in and did exactly the same as the first rider so we won! Cue W feeling very chuffed! Unfortunately they cancelled the puissance as there were only 2 of us entered and I think they were pretty concerned about the going too as a couple of horses had slipped over earlier in the day too. The two of us really enjoyed ourselves, it was nice doing something not too high-powered and fun! I will go and put some pics in the gallery.

Sounds great fun!! Nice to have a chill out fun day some times!! Well done!

Excellent - I bet William enjoyed himself even more than you did. I'm no expert but I'm absolutely certain that good horses get very bored having to be serious and on their best behaviour all the time. I bet the next time you go out he stars and bars.

You're all absolutely right, it's great to go out and have a no-pressure bit of a jolly! £7 entry fee, no diesel, no start fee... great! Rosiefan - William is only 6 and is so world-weary sometimes I worry what he will be like in his teens! But he does like going out on jaunts.

So he's a just a youngster. I was a conscientious (sp?) child but when they let us out of school for the summer the feeling that no one was much caring how I 'performed' was so liberating. Variety is the spice of life so I applaud you both for daring to just have fun
