My local forest - Delamere Forest (forestry commission) are planning on selling off 47 acres of land to a holiday company who want to build 78 holiday lodges/build roads/drains/etc all in the oldest part of the forest ie the bit full of oaks, beeches, bieches etc not the planted fir/conifer side.

I use it regularly both with the horses and on foot and it is used by everyone in the area. Needless to say I'm not too impressed by these plans and have written to my mp, signed the petition, written to the forestry commisson et al and so when I found out that there was going to be a rally there I decided that I had to go.

It would have been nice to take the horses but Otto wouldn't have stood for it and Dylan would have been a bit worried on his own!

There was a good turnout of walkers, dog walkers, cyclists and even a few horses too so it was well represented. ITV turned up to film and there were a few photos on their site - I'm yet to see the news programme but will have a flick though it later!

If any of you would like to add your names to the petition we would all be very appreciative - it means a lot and we don't want to lose our forests!

This link tells you about the plans and the following one is the link to the petition.

There are a couple of not very good photos if you scroll down! They missed the very well behaved horse on the right! although I did notice them go over to interview her!

I too hope they don't get planning. It's a fantastic place and there's no need to spoil it in this proposed way. A guy from work ended up caught up in the protest! He just set out on an innocent bike ride and inadvertently found himself in amongst the action!

i had to reply when i saw the name of the company on the placards on the opposition website.
I have stayed at one of there sites and was so impressed i Immediately booked again.
I would suggest that the person responsible for the comments about the cafe/bar area should maybe stay at one of the existing sites maybe undercover! The one I stayed at offered only modest on site facilities and we didnt spend more than £20 on site all weekend.. however we did eat out locally and also purchased groceries locally.
Im not saying that the protest is unfounded .... just that they should maybe get a little bit more inside correct information before publicising it!
