So, i went to go and view a horse about a week ago now, she was absolutely stunning and everything...
brilliant show jumper and had been out and about competing at towerlands in the 4 year old classes.
She's everything i want in a horse,
But there was something just not right..
What should i do?
I'm thinking about going back for a second viewing, but there is something at the back of my mind telling me not to.
She was the first horse i've been to see, and i feel rushed in making a decision by the seller who is quite keen to sell her quickly.
Urgh! i think i need re-assuring or something?
There just wasn't something quite right...

If it doesn't feel right after the second viewing, personally, I wouldn't go any further. With me the 'click' is the most important thing - I would rather buy a horse that I clicked with but didn't fit my criteria in some way than a horse ticked every box but somehow just doesn't feel right. But that is my personal opinion, and you have to go with yours.

Hi, as I see it, you have options:

*Go with your gut and walk away (plenty more fish in the sea)
*View again but take a 'knowledgable friend/instructor' with you who won't be scared to drag you away if s/he spots what is troubling you.
*Mention vetting and see what reaction you get from the seller.
*Ask for a trial period.

Take your time.

Do you have a friend who you can trust to keep you under control and help you make a calm decision ? if so, take them and have another look. Tell the vendor outright that you don't want to be pressurised. If they care about the horse going to the right home, they will back off.

When I saw Tiggy I knew that something wasn't right. No idea what. Also knew that I would buy her. Sort of knew there wasn't going to be a happy ever after for us. Could not put my finger on it. Bought her. Lost her a year later.

This isn't to say this is as it will be for you. Maybe you need to see more horses.

The horse I have now is the first one I saw when I went hunting for a horse. I walked away that time. Saw her again after I lost Tiggy and fell for her hook, line and sinker.

If it's meant to be then it will be

I would walk away, the 'click'factor is the most important imo. When looked at the current Appy, she 'came up' underneath me, stood to attention and I knew in that second that she was for me

I hadn't been on her back for two minutes. Have tried others thwt I just knew were not for me.

I looked at some fabuloued horses at a sports horse dealer in Surrey when we were thinking of selling Milly and buying something...easier!!! I was shown a lovely polish warmblood, he was very nice, did everything i wanted, on paper was perfect but there was no instant connection........in the end I kept Mily and i am so glad i did!
There are thousands of horses out there, it's worth taking your time to find the perfect horse for you. Personally i would'nt go back, and would carry on looking x

Definitely go with your gut feeling. You have to have had a connection to the horse. Only thing I would say is just be sure that the "not right" feeling is not just you thinking you should not buy the first horse you see. I know we often feel we shouldn't! That was the only thing that niggled when I bought my new boy in May - that I shouldn't buy the first one I tried this time but he ticked all the right boxes otherwise and I am so glad I did as I have not seen another since all summer competing that I would rather have

Any I have gone back and seen a second time settled it for me that they weren't for me and the most important thing is that I like the horse "as a person" if you like and feel we could bond.

I would say go and see more and only if you then get a niggling feeling that maybe the first one was best go and view again having had a chance to compare. That may settle it as you will either think you were wrong and she is way better or still be missing that x factor!

Thanks everyone!!
I really feel i should go and see some more horses,
we just didn't click i suppose!
she seems a bit 'too good to be true' to be honest,
and even my mum felt like they sellers were kind of hiding something.
I think i best off leaving her, but i just really don't want to regret not buying her.
She's not cheap and i don't want to make any mistakes.
There's a dealers in Bedfordshire i might drag my mum to at the weekend as there are some beauties there that seem nice.
I really really feel like i need to get a feel for some more though.
Thanks again everyone, you've really helped me make up my mind

If your gut instinct is that something isn't right why bother going for a second viewing? Are you just concerned because it#s the first horse you've seen?

I went and saw one very similar. Should have been PERFECT but just didnt do it for me

There will be others out there that don't leave you feeling cold

Yeh, after all of this and finally deciding that i should trust my instincts.. i get an email telling me she's off the market!!
If only they had told me before it would of been alot less confusing/hard decision making for moi!
Oh well, fate i suppose!
Virtual cookies for everyone who answered though, i really do appreciate it
