... a 'how much' thread. Right. How things change.
How much would this be worth in your opinion?

11.1hh Section A gelding. Black, 3 whites, blaze.11 years. Fantastic show history, many M&M champs and good placing P(UK). Spent the last 18 months as a childs pony, winning from his first gymkhana, shows a great jump and enjoys it. Totally trustworthy with children. hacks out alone or in company. Good LR or off LR. Great farrier/load etc. Lives in/out.
Downside - sometimes difficult for adults to catch (always fine with kids) and has a condition NOT sweetitch but similar, easily controlled by wearing a flysheet.

I am so out-of-touch with horse prices these days

On the downside-If he had a current show record this year at PUK etc then that would have helped the price.
For a sec A he is on the smaller side, for showing many would prefer to buy a full up sec a and he has one or two other probs, although manageable.
His age is slightly against you also.

On the upside- as you say, on the other hand, he sounds like a safe pony which are hard to find, especially if he is genuine and good off the lead.

I would probably think £2,000 but expect to get knocked down a little? you could try for more but you can be picky about his home at the right price.

He is 11, which is by no means old, but his showing career is on the down, most native show people believe.(from my experience)

I thought 11 as a child's pony would be acceptable. To be honest, I think he would be best now as a child's pony, he's done the circuit. He won at County level, but has not shown for three years now.
I don't have any recent photos as he has been away for 18 months, but I will try to find some slightly older ones. He is a real sweetheart, everybody loves him. I was hoping maybe £1k (in Cornwall!!!) Think he will go up for sale in Spring.
Any more thoughts please?

The lady that has him has kept horses all her life and said he is the only pony she has ever trusted to leave her kids alone with.

(PS. he was professionally broken to drive but is not suited so would not be sold as such) He would be sold with 5 rugs!!!!

I would say first ponies are worth their weight in gold! Deffo 2k plus. I know i would be happy to pay knowing my child would be as safe as could be. He looks great!

He is eleven which isnt old but some people may be concerned that they will not get their money back for him when their child has outgrown him. He may be 14, rising 15 when re-homed next.
Thats my opinion from experience.

I personally think that if a pony has done its job for me then it owes me nothing but not everyone thinks like that .
I prefer an older safe pony that knows its job well.

He looks a nice enough type.

Thanks for all your replies. I think I will try £1250 and drop to £1000 if necessary.

1st ponies are sooooo expensive, IMO he sounds cheap at that, you cant put a price on your childs life. Maybe advertise a little higher and be prepared to accept less you may find you will attract a different caliber of customer. I know that sounds really snobby and horrible but i tried to sell a pony who hadnt had a jockey for over 12 month so needed a little work but really super little guy. Advertised at £900 and had lots of interest from pony club types but didnt sell as he wasnt just ready to go do PC, reduced him to £500 and you wouldnt believe some of the enquiries i had, i dred to think where he would have ended up.
