First things first, can I just say well done to my team as we actually came 7th out of 20 teams from Britain so we are very very pleased with that.
Onto what happened to me, well I picked up a cold on the thursday so my swim and run for the weekend were absolutly rubbish! I shot 880 which I was very pleased with especially one target which was 4 bulls and 1 8 so very pleased although one my second target one of my shots went off before I was ready so I only got a 4 for that one, but thats what nerves do to you!
Now the riding, it didn't go to plan, first of we had a horrendous start as Dougal doesn't stand in the start, other wise he rears and I was made to stand even though I told them it wouldnt happen and sure enough as soon as I asked him to stand he started to bounce threatening to go vertical and shot out the start before I was told to go, so I was made to come back and start again, then getting to the water and he jumped in very backward, so I was kicking as much as I could are we had a fence in the water and a large step out but somehow he jumped very very sticky over the jump got his right leg, through the left side of the reins (from the left side of his neck) whilst jumping the jump in water and pulled the reins out my hands nearly catapulting me over his head. Luckily he didn't panic, he just managed to slither over the jump somehow and stopped dead the other side. So I had to jump off in the middle of the water, up to my ankles in sludge to free him, checked him over and then got back on waited until I was told I could carry on and finished (had a run out later on in the course but in the grand scheme of things, that doesn't matter!!)

Anyway, My aunt took some pictures of us and she happened to be down at the water and took these pictures, I now realise quite how lucky we were to survive this in one peice, poor pony could have paniced and caused himself, or me and injury but luckily he is a sensible lad and stood stock still until I freed him!

He is fine, just a little bit stiff and a few small cuts on his back legs where he scrapped them over the log so I think we got off very lightly!!
Thanks for reading my essay :) and well done to all who were down at the tet champs it was a lovely weekend all in all :)

What a brilliant horse for just staying chilled, as you say could have been worse. Glad he was ok and that you were able to carry on!

I had a similar thing at my last BE on my old man, he just put down going over a xc fence, his back legs went through it into the fence. He remained completely chilled, just pulled his legs out slowly then attempted to carry on cantering to the next fence! Made sure he was sound then pulled up as I he was tiring. They are amazing how calm they can stay in bad situations!

What a star for not panicking- both of you! Well done for leaping off and sorting it all out quickly, because in the heat of the moment it would have been so easy for you to worry him. Massive well done for completing the course and getting such a good shooting score- you'll be back, better than ever next year :D

What a very sensible horse not to panic - could have been so much worse! Well done on your team result - were you Intermediate or Open?
