Frankly I think he needs retiring now and I am not going to ride him anymore. I took him for a hack on Saturday and enough was enough - neither of us enjoyed it. He has lami, is arthritic and I now have concerns about his back as he was humping it a lot of Sat and slowing to a stop. No-one ever wants to be told this about their horse though and I am not looking forward to being the one who has to do it! She says he is 17 but someone else has known him 17 years and he was competing then!

I am sure the owner knows but perhaps is'nt ready to acknowlege the fact, so your job wont be that difficult.

If they care about the horse, they will be grateful.

i agree its better to tell the owner what you think now rather than making excuses as to why you are not riding him any more if she is a careing enough owner then she will agree with you.

I think in her mind she still thinks he is the fast games pony he once was - perhaps why he is still in a gag although the trouble is getting him to move not stop!
