My friend was speakin to me about getting a new horse, she mentioned getting an icelandic horse and asked me what I though, i stared at her blank faced as I have no idea whatsoever what they r like!
Does anybody have one? And can you tell me about there personalities, and how much weight they can hold?

They are awesome. My OH's Dad's partner breeds them and I have had a few rides. Although small they ride much bigger and have massive personalities. They are gaited horses prefering to tolt rather than trot. The tolt is so comfortable and they are not at all spooky in nature. Some pace if you are an adrenalin junkie!

I LOOOOVE them!! I used to ride two as a child. They are quite small but carry alot of weight...........as in full grown men!

They are generally calm and very dependable but not ploddy. The are super fun ponies, I wouldn't hesitate to get one again

i so wish i had one lol i'd love a wee speedy reliable pony................ i think the only down side is how expensive they are the lady up here who has them sells them from £4500 :S

They're awesome ponies. The tolt is super comfortable and they are seriously powerful. Great weigth carriers etc. Only thing I would say is most seem to be definitely not slow and also it might be good for your friend to ensure they have some specialist tuition available to help with schooling the different gaits, they are a bit specialist. I went on a riding holiday to iceland a couple of years ago and was so impressed by the ponies. They're icelandics in my signiture.

) one day, i agree with walrus about getting some tuiton for the gaits, have a look on.. http://www.ihsgb.co.uk its full of usefull bits and bobs

Fantastic little horses. they are not very big but the are so powerful, and their paces, especially the tolt, is amazing. They are also hardy and kind, but can often suffer from sweetitch.
