Getting pretty fed up of reading about people getting their rugs stolen.

I've already postcoded the rugs with permanent marker pen, but have read about people identifing rugs with stencilled paint.

So I've collected lots of cardboard to make stencils, but just wondered about what sort of paint to use?

I'm not worried about how subtle it appears - just want to make them useless to the theiving scumbags.

Hi,

I use anything I have in the workshop, the brighter the better, gloss, matt etc, etc. I imagine spray paint would work just fine because it's easier to 'write' with and you have a huge choice of colour too

My rugs looked very tacky because I didn't do the posh stencilling thing, just huge letters and a phone number.

I use any paint, matt, satin or gloss. Always in white too. I prefer matt as it drys quickly, whereas satin or gloss you are left with a rug with wet paint on (usually overnight until its properly dry).

I don't use stencils, just paint freehand as neat as possible. If you were to use stencils you would really need them to stick to the rug otherwise the paint will seep underneath the cardboard and will probably look messy - easier to jsut do freehand imo.

Thanks for all the advice

I've ordered some stencils for my postcode, and I'm going to get some very bright fabric spray paint. My handwriting is grim, so I don't think I'd be great trying to do this freehand.

If anyone is interested the stencils are 8" high and cost £16.48 from www.stencilexpress.co.uk
