Hi folks. Having struggled with getting pig oil onto my horse instead of myself and the floor, I have found a realy good solution. I had read on a thread on here about using a large syringe. This was good but as I have small hands I found it hard to squirt one handed.

My solution is a washed out hair dye bottle with nozzle applicator, easy to hold and squeeze with one hand whilst massaging with the other, gets right down to the roots and one bottle is just about the right amount for one of my ponies legs. Plus you can keep giving it a good shake.

My local tack shop gets it in. I had just used pig oil but this time got some with sulphur. I got 1 litre in case he reacted. You can get it on ebay and amazon cheaper but the saving is outweighed by the P&P. Mine was just under a fiver for 1 litre and I am told about £17 for 5 litres.

I don't want pig oil down to the skin, it is a barrier not a moisturiser, I paint mine on with a 2 inch normal paint brush, no waste and mud doesn't stick.

I put pig oil on using a spray bottle and/or old body brush. I bought the little spray bottle as a tester ages ago in case he reacted, and just refill it from a big tub.

Spray directly onto the feathers and give a quick wipe with the brush to make it vaguely even, then spray onto the brush and wipe over legs and any bits that stick out of the rug to keep mud away.

However muddy he comes in, it's all dried and dropped off by morning, without constant washing. Love the stuff :D
