Hello :)

Was wondering if anyone had recommendations for a bit for my TB? He's 4 in may :)

Is currently ridden in a straigh bar rubber snaffle, and I want some thing rubber/vulcanite/happy mouth etc :)

Tried him in a happy mouth eggbutt snaffle, but he doesnt like the nutcracker action of it, so then tried a thin straigh bar snaffle, which was good but the rings were too small, and now he's in a straigh bar rubber snaffle, but its too thick for his mouth.

He does have a very small mouth, but tends to work better in a biger bit so he's currently in 5", he's really fussy about putting the bit in his mouth, but its something i am working on with him, so hopefully he wont put up as much a fight if the bit fits comfortably in his mouth.

(I am also having his teeth checked on the 7th march)

also,I am getting his back checked asap, as yesterday when I tried to mount him he flew into a bucking fit and off I went, wasn't really on properly to be honest...anyway, same thing happened today so I checked him all over, and with some help from some lovely people at my yard we've discovered he's got a sore back. seems very tense, and just seems stiff on one side, isnt "swinging" as much - any advice on what this could be? Hoping the back man will be able to come and look at him this week, or next week at the latest, but definatley wont be riding him until this is sorted.

Thanks for your help :)

I have used a NS lozenge 4.5 inch bit on my TB mare. She went very nicely in it, she also hated a jointed snaffle. TBs have tiny little mouths and although a 5 inch looked ok, it was in fact to big. I now have a TB gelding who is more comfortable bitless.

hmm... thats a good point pastie -i might try ad borrow a 4.5 just to see how it fits him, i just want him to be comfy :)

was thinking of a sweet iron bit; i think i'll end up with a collection of bits trying t ofnd the right one for blade! :D
