My pony will be ridden a maximum of 3 days a week over winter, and hopefully 5 days a week during christmas holidays. She lives out 24/7 without a rug, but plan to pop a 100g turnout on her on days with prolonged rain once the winter really sets in (she is in her 20's).

I will only hack her short distances and will stay mainly at walk and trot a little at the 1st half of the ride. Hopefully she will not sweat much, but I may consider a small clip if I think it will be for the best.

Who here has hairy ponies in similar work and routine over winter that have clips? If so, what clip do you recommend for her and one that will still give her the option to live out without a rug, unless it is prolonged rain?.
Pictures may help if you have a moment to post, thankyou!.

See how she goes, if she doesn't sweat you may not need to clip at all. We had a native with a long coat that never sweated, and never needed clipping. Was a lot less trouble!

neck and belly or low trace for a hairy that is rugless. you will only remove hair where the rain would naturally drop off anyway. a rain sheet on standby is a good idea if the weather is really grim for a longish period of time.

That would be ideal as it would only skim a little of the underside of her neck off.

But could she still be unrugged on dry but cold days? and do you also shave off the jawline?
Im quite like her hairy winter beard!

Toffee44. Did Toffee wear a rug with that clip?

Honey08. Thanks, I am hoping not to have to clip her, so we'll see how it goes. Last winter she sweated a tiny bit around where her tack went, but not all over the other bits of her body!!. But I am planning to ride her more this year.
