So after spending a lot of last night dreaming about what I would do if I had won that £50million on the lottery last night (damn numbers werent right!) I thought we could have a fun thread where we dream a little about what we would have for our own yard (not be on a livery yard, actually own our own yard).

I would have tried to go and buy an old riding school I used to go to that is no longer a riding school. It has a 60x30 indoor arena with stables attached so everything is indoors. Theres about 25-30 stables in there, large tackroom, large feed room. There is an outdoor arena as well, think its about 40X20. Theres also the old stable block a bit further down, and a field that used to be used for cross country and I would do up again. Would also put in a solarium, and build a horse walker.

I then also did look at some horses and decided as well as my horse, I would want an Andalusian and a Friesian. I did also find a Lusitano stallion last night that I wanted purely because it had been in Merlin (well when you're rich, stupid reasons are fine) :p

So what about you guys? Can be whatever you would want, money no object. :)

The funny thing is is I spent part of my 2 hour team meeting doing to same yesterday haha :D

I wouldn't buy a new place I'd just improve my YOs current place with things they would want (its not a livery yard she had the extra grass & space at their yard) she thought it was a great idea when I mentioned it :)

- New stable block of 4 stables and then a tack room/feedroom on the end and a small haystore on the other end
- Electricity & Flood Lights for the outdoor Arena (and I'd pay the elecy bill lol)
- Buy 2 of the surround fields, Re post and rail both and put a huge hard standing area in the one I currently use
- Use the 2 stables in the other field I would buy as a hay store / Rug store and get a quad bike and a trailer type deal to bring the hay up to the main part of the yard
- Use the smaller field I'd want to buy as a grass school in the spring/summer

I also worked out you would buy 142500 6ft bales of hay so free hay for everyone lol

It's probably a good thing I didn't get to think about horses I'd get before looking at my ticket or I would have already picked out my herd of Appaloosas lol

I realise I thought this through way to much and don't really remember much of my meeting :D but I will be getting a ticket Saturday just incase

the hours I have spent idly daydreaming about this......
I would love a really old farmhouse with stables facing the house across a yard.
Not too many stables - say about 12 so I could accommodate my friends too without it being a massive yard. All good size preferably 14x14 and rubber matted.
Indoor school
Outdoor school
Barn for parking lorries
Large tackroom, separate rug room - both heated and with rug dryers. Enough room so nothing is crowded!
Wash box with hot and cold water
Most important in this weather - all weather turnout area of a decent size - maybe semi roofed.
Plenty of storage for hay, haylage, shavings, straw etc.
Discreet dung heap - maybe a trailer in a purpose built put arrangement so it's easy to get rid of it.
Of course Pie would take pride of place, but with all those stables I'd have room for a chestnut ISH youngster with a big white blaze and 4 white socks....

I had one, well, minus a few of the more expensive bits and pieces (you know - indoor arena, staff etc ;) )

We had the half mile all weather gallop, acre sand school (or however big we chose to make it) straight gallops, forest tracks, sand soil so no mud, ever! (yay :D) 50 acres etc,

Grew to hate it.

Sold it.

Do not regret it.

I would have 18 white brick boxes (need room for my friends!) in a courtyard shape with a glass roof to keep everything dry, but with half walls between stables and fairly large as I like huge horses. I would also have the tack room/feed room/hay storage in there, plus a 'farmhouse kitchen-esqe' social area, and maybe a wash box and a general grooming space.

I would have a 60x30 indoor school with full mirrors, attached by walkway so all inside; and a 60x20 outdoor with a field adjacent with a full set of showjumps. A sand gallops would run the perimeter of the property, with a few cross country jumps/elements dotted around.

The turnout would be flat, and well draining, with white post and rail and autowaterers, and alongside this some all weather turnout just in case! I would also have a quaint little cottage where an older couple would live, she would hep me with yard work and he would be a maintenance man.

I have had a lot of time to think about it when work has been slow, I could go into a hell of a lot more detail! :D

I dont know why that made me laugh, but the fact you're involving people in yours made me laugh. That is brilliant detail, I love it. I love the white post and rails too for the fields. My horse needs a sturdy fence to keep him in, he crawls underneath electric fencing to get out.

Ooh, if only!

I wouldn't want a massive yard (too much upkeep and hassle involved). I'd have about 10 boxes in a horseshoe arrangement, a tie up area in the middle (ideally a lawn with a pretty fountain in the middle surrounded by a sturdy but attractive fence - no people or animals would be permitted to set foot on the lawn EVER, except the gardener), a gardener, a maintenance man, a 30x60 indoor areana, a 30x60 outdoor arena, a jumping paddock, a gallop track, a wash box (with solarium, obvs), an area for trailer/lorry parking, a club house for my friends with heating, sofas, a kitchen and and a Costa machine (mmmmm) to keep them from trudging in and out of my large 5 double bedroomed farmhouse, about 20 acres of fields with xc fences, plus an area of woodland with tracks for hacking, access to excellent off site hacking..........I'm sure I can think of more!

Storage! How could I forget storage?

Barn for hay/bedding
Feed room
Heated tack room
Rug washing machine
Muck tools and narrows area
Muck trailer
Ooh, a creche service for friends with babies so they can ride and do chores without worrying about where the kids are!

I would have a huge barn with an entrance at each corner out to separate fields so ponies could go in or out at will and swap fields by using different entrances. I would also have stables in barn for individual feeding etc.

An indoor school, wash box and solarium. lots of storage in large tack room. A covered area for farrier/vet, warm of course.

Fantastic hacking with no roads.

My ideal yard would have a large barn with 16 large airy stable (8 either side) large gap between the middle to allow plenty of space to type up and move around with 4 tack rooms (4 horses per tack room) a washing area at the end of the barn with a hot horse shower, heat lamps above to stop horses getting chilled during winter. A seperate little barn to be used as a feed room with a kitchen area and seating area for yard meetings and for all to use.

It would have a horse walker, roung pen, outdoor menage 60 x 40 and indoor menage 80 x 60 with viewing area and jumps available. Ideally lots of land with good drainage, great hacking and a lovely house for me to live in with views of the horses fields and the outdoor menage so I can watch the horses during the day:)

Also two seperate stables away from the main barn with access to a small field and tack room for any new horses in isolation or emergencies.

i adore our yard at home now, great land and arena and everything is neat and tidy and works but i would:

buy the storage barn off the nobs next door and turn it in to a 20 x 40 indoor.

all weather surface the walk ways between the fields, they dont really get muddy in any case but it would keep the moles out and keep it level.

post and rail all the paddocks and do away with the flipping electric fence.

buy the field next door and build an all weather track round the edge of the entire property.

How amazing would it be!! My list is endless..... An arena near me has just had an arena installed which is absolutely maahooosive! It's 80X70, little things like a heated rug rack, solarium, and nice all year round turn out, and maybe a few valegro's....

Maybe we should buy a lottery ticket...

I've spent my lunch hour having a good think! I like the location of my yard and the fact it's on a hill so the fields usually drain quite well. I think I'd buy it and keep the lovely farmhouse, but knock down all the farm buildings and start again.

I'd have an American barn with 10 stables and direct access to a 60x40 indoor school. The stables would also have windows so the horses could have a view of the outside as well. Inside the barn, there would also be a wash box, solarium, feed room, tack room, heated rug room a coffee room and a well organised tool storage area. Each stable would have its own tap (I dislike both automatic waterers and lugging water buckets!) with a protective cover to prevent horses getting to them and they'd be separated by a 4ft wall with grills above. The grills would have windows you could open if you wanted so horses could interact and blinds you could close if the horses like privacy. There would also be a muck chute that goes straight to a machine that compresses it into bricks and dries them. We could then use them as fuel either in a boiler to heat the rug room and coffee room or in a special generator for electricity (we did say dream, right?)

I'd reorganise the fields (with post and rail) so they're all roughly a similar size and have all weather walkways to all the gates and for 10m inside the gates, in fact all the areas outside the fields would be a mix of concrete and all weather so nobody would have to trudge through mud to get anywhere.

There would also be an outdoor school, a couple of little box rest turnout pens for emergencies and each field would have a decent, large field shelter with hard core base and a hay rack all along the back wall so I could leave them out but they could choose to come in to get out of weather / flies. A hay barn and garage for the many tractors I will need (and of course my brand new lorry) goes without saying.

One or two fields would have a track system around the outside for ponies who need that sort of set up.

I'd also buy strips of land from the neighbouring farms to build tracks so we could get in and out on our hacks without having to go on the main road. I'd use the flat fields down that the bottom of the hill purely for riding on in the summer and would get a groundsman / greenkeeper in to maintain them in perfect condition.

I'd also resurface the whole length of the lane up to the yard so there's not a pot hole in sight and have electric gates - with an extra open/close button that can be easily reached on horseback.

I worked on this yard for a little while and it was pretty much as the name suggests!

It was purpouse built from the ground up and everything was just in the right place, only problem being some of the turn out was a bit of a walk away but there was closer fields too. The yard had everything you could possibly dream of having including a helipad!

upgrades i would make would be to upgrade the XC course and put all weather tracks round the gallops and put auto waters in ALL fields

That's just down the road from my in-laws. It could almost make moving that close to them bearable. :D

Gestut Peterhof in Germany has to be the most beautiful yard I have ever seen. It's tack room is more luxurious than most people's houses. I reckon I would need 2 lottery wins to buy it but it is jaw droppingly gorgeous!
