Ideal hunting boots (human!)

Ok , well along with wanting to be correctly turned out !

Joddy boots and gaiters are just not suitable for the dodgy Welsh weather (hence puddles in my boots last meet..!) so I have decided to buy some 'dedicated' hunting footwear.

I don't want them to cost a fortune as
- they will spend most of the time getting soaked in puddles/mud whilst opening gates
- they are only needed solely for hunting
- they will be binned at the end of the season no doubt as I can't keep a pair in good condition (however hard I try!)

So any recommendations?

I have just bought myself a pair of Loveson long leather boots. They look the part with classic cut tops and garter straps but only cost about £55 new. I think the reason they are so cheap is that they aren't leather lined but the outer is deffinately leather. There wasn't much point in me spendng loads as I only hunt a couple of times a month so hopefully they will last ages.

The Regent Cotswold boots look lovely but are £300+. I have seen some on Ebay for less though because they are seconds.

You could get some Petrie boots - they are ace and last forever no matter how badly you treat them. About £200 brand new but look on Ebay.

I killed my last pair of Dubarrys in 9 months .. and they are meant to last forever :crazy:

These might be a bit more than you were willing to pay. They are leather lined with rubber leather look outer. My ex had a pair and they were ideal, looked very smart and were so easy to wipe clean after use.

Like aniseed, i think mine are the loveson ones, they've worn well for 3 seasons hunting in, so would recomend these
for the price they are they last well, do the job and look smart enough.

Now this is the sort of thing , I didn't expect to exist !!
Someone said to me last weekend ''you need a pair of rubber boots , so and so has a pair' and I didn't believe them that they weren't actually leather (I only remember old school rubber boots that didn't EVER fit!)

Glad to be able to help. They go to a lot of shows so you can get measured for the best fit possible.

I too remember the hell of those cheap rubber boots - standing in a bucket of water in summer till my feet cooled enough to get them off!

Oh God, I had a pair of those - briefly!! Sweat factories in the summer and freezing in winter!

Thankfully my feet stopped growing when I was 15 and I was allowed some proper leather jodhpur boots, oh the memories....lol!

Ah yes, nostalgia! I was actually in jodh boots most of my childhood - I only had the rubber ones briefly because I nagged my mother about wanting to get some "grown up" boots - boy, did I regret it! It was such a treat to be able to get full length leather ones!

my gf has got some ariat ones think they cost about 180 they have laces on front and suede on inside. she loves them they are water proof and apparently really warm and comfy.

Quite a few people round here hunt in Aigle rubber boots. They're pretty well cut, you can only tell that they're not leather up close and the local saddler will put leather 'tops' on for the blokes fairly cheaply. They really do look fine and best of all require virtually no elbow grease to keep clean. Don't buy leather if you're only going to wreck it in bogs.

Just to let you know my Loveson boots arrived in the post yesterday and I'm really pleased with them. They don't have the garter straps like I though they were going to but apart from that they're great. Am sat in work wearing them at the mo to break them in and must say they are very comfortable considering they are new boots.
