Anyone got one? Probably getting one for Springy and wondered what people thought?

Damn my bloomin' expensive beast.

very comfy - its what sheriff used to jump in - i wanted it for aran but its heavier than my current one (and slightly more expensive!!!)

so is that what they came up with? what about your one - are you trading it in

EDIT - I'm not taking the new ones though - hers was second hand. i think rosie had MW make her a saddle using that tree though

She won't give me anything for my saddle as it is too old

So going to have to try and flog it somewhere to raise some cash.
I am still not wholly convinced that I want a new one so going to have a trip around saddlers tomorrow to see if I can find something 2nd hand. I can't believe she is XW!!!

XW - really?
thats amazing - i'd not have thought she was that wide - how do they get saddles for table topped horses then?

so are they trying to get you to by one of 'their' Ideals new?

edit - where are you going to try? colmon croft, horse house, TCFs, cat-lips etc?
I'd phone them up and see if they have anything in second hand

I had a VSD Ideal for Marbs. She didn't look it at all, but she fitted to XW! Was the only saddle I could get to fit and was very comfy. Had to fork out for a new one (with some additional features!), but it was worth it.

I am not going to bother with coleman croft as they never have anything in. Going to try Ingatestone though and Sandon saddlery, may try catlips too - TC feeds is a bit far but may see if they are open on sunday.
The only good thing about the ideal one is that it will be made for both of us and she doesn't envisage Spring ever needing more than minor adjustments only if her weight changes. I just wish she could find one that was a year or two old

What additional features did you have? Sadler trying to persuade me to have grainy effect leather on the seat - not sure I am keen on that! Lol!

i'd ring them up and see what they have in your size - saves unneeded trip(especially catlips). i'm sure you could find something better that is second hand though (charlottes ideal for £450 from ingatestone was a great buy!)

what about the 1/2 leather one thing you were talking about if you did have to go new?

One of MW's fitters came out to measure her up, sadly its hard to find anyone that will come out other than them, most want you to take your horse to them and I have no transport.
I have been keeping an eye on ebay but they are going for lots of money and I would rather spend a bit more and get one from a saddlery so at least I have some come back if anything goes wrong. Might try Michael Longland - thanks!

Wasn't anything like that! Sounds swish..if slighty less comfortable. Had some extra girth straps fitted to keep it in place and the girth straps themselves were changed to another material (albeit not as nice!)

fair enough
hope you find something lovely when you're out looking today - if you don't have you thought of contacting jeffries - if you're getting a new one you may as well get what you want (and match your bridle!!). plus i'd rather get a true jeffries/ideal whatever than a saddlers one with a 'named' tree - easier to sell too if you need to!

Haven't been able to go out looking today as had to have landlord round as our fence got trashed in the gales. Ingatestone is open tomorrow though so going to pop over there and have a look. Sadly a new jeffries will be £900+ and I can't really justify that at the moment

If I am getting an Ideal I will make sure it has Ideal stamp on it!

Thanks - that saves me a trip!
I went ot Ingatestone today and they have one but only brand new

so looks like I am going to have to shell out £700.

We had an ideal vsd, but it was just a bog standard one not the international event. It was very comfy to ride in for hours, I used to be grateful of it out hunting. Unfortunately it was stolen but I would definitely consider buying another one in the future.

I've got the VSD on the Europa Tree and its superb. My NF is notoriously difficult to fit as she is an XW but very short backed. To add to the equation I'm pretty short and my legs don't come past the saddle flaps on 'standard' saddles! I had my saddle made to measure by Ideal and had extras added, balance straps and extra D rings, at no extra cost to their 'off the peg' prices.

If you live anywhere near Suffolk I can give you details of the saddle fitter (who also fits for ILPH)
