Hello - I have a four month old rescue staffie puppy who has unfortunately injured her hind leg and had to have it pinned yesterday.
She is home and obviously feeling very well. She is to be kept as calm and quiet as possible, no running, jumping etc and is only allowed in the garden on the lead for a wee. She is such a good girl and is pretty steady and sensible under normal circumstances but i am trying to think of ways to entertain her while she is recovering to prevent her going stir crazy. She is crate trained and she loves her bedroom so is happy to be in there but obviously not all day. I have been giving her her kibble in her kong as usual but just wondered if anybody had any ideas of ways to keep her little brain busy. Any suggestoions greatly appreciated.

You can get little brain games (they look flimsy) mind you, but basically they have to work out how the get the treat, give it a google.
Also lots of different filling for kongs (freezing them) helps them last longer. Large raw bones to gnaw on does actually relax and exhaust them more than you would think, esp very over sized ones:D
Obs watch her weight and reduce food as necc and feed her via the kongs.
You could probably teach her some non to physical tricks.
How she injure herself? any piccies have we seen her b4?:p:)

Thanks for the tips Cayla. I wasn't sure if she was old enough for a bone but will pop to the butchers this afternoon to see what he has.

She has a Salter-Harris fracture of her stifle after being frightened by a big scary rabbit in the field. She jumped up twisted and flipped over backwards...silly girl.
She is a staff x and i think the other bits include a big dose of cowardly lion!!

I am a total div when it comes to posting pics, there are a couple on my profile (not very good ones) but i don't know how to put them into posts.

Thanks again

there are some good puzzles on petplanet.....ive got the wooden ones by nina ottoson (the dog brick and dog twister) they are not cheap but are good fun...hope your dog gets better soon....

Kongs, bones, buster cubes (most dogs pat these with their front paws and put minimal pressure on their hinds, but please do monitor!).....also clicker training.

The Nina Ottoson Dog Pyramid is a really good treat ball. I got one for the whippet to keep him occupied after he was castrated a couple of weeks ago and it's great. Just difficult enough to keep him occupied but not so hard he gets bored and gives up.

I did also try it with the Big Dog who is Master of Treat balls but it appears that at 12 he's too old to bother with such nonsense and just tried to chew a hole in it instead. Happy to report it survived so it's nice and sturdy :D
