Helping a horse with a bad back. New horse has had an horrendously badly fitting saddle. Has muscle wastage and weakness on right side. Seen by physio, twice, and is improving. Has been doing some lunging including jumping and now has correctly fitted saddle although I think he may take some persuading.Needs top line building up.

Am I being daft in asking if the physio suggested things to do? I know human ones nearly always give 'try at home' exercises so thought horse ones would too?

You need to ask your physio for specific exercises for your horse. However most groundwork and poles should be suitable.

walk and canter was always prescribed after a horse had had it's back manipulated,
If you have some hills walk up a few of those regularly, and then poles like teddyt says,
also do the carrot exercises which is a good supplying/stretching/warming up exercise,
for top line keep him working long and low and relaxed

good luck
