Ideas for my daugher please?

Big show on this Sunday and daughter is showjumping there. At the end of the show they always do a fun fancy dress competition and she wants to enter it. I came up with a few suggestions, although they all sound like too much hard work for me to be honest, so wouldn't mind some simple and easy to make costumes for both horse and rider. Here is the combination:

I will just name a few that have been done by people at our yard in the past

Racing Stripes (the zebra from the disney film)
Dark Vader (Sp!)
Superman (done by me!)
Various Superhero's
Teddy Bear
Cowboy/Cowgirl
Angel
Devil

Fancy dress is a serious business at my yard LOL
 
Aww thank you. Yes she really likes this horse and has struck up a real bond with him. We don't "do" lots of tack here ..... I'm a typical western rider - less is best!

I was thinking of the horse being the beach, because of his colouring....and daughter being the sunbather. I was going to place a towel on his back, give her a glass with umbrella's and lemon in them, wearing a bikini and I have a 2ft palm tree that I somehow wanted to attach to the horse, along with a big cardboard sandwich board painted like the sea which would hang down his sides.

Does this sound like too much work? Or easy? Can't really get into it to be honest.

that a really clever idea. Would probably take a fair bit of work, and I assume horse isnt spooky! (pickle freaked out one year at his superman cape lol!)

Well we have loads of large boxes so could easily do the lapping sea LOL!! I can't figure out how to attach the palm tree though - it is a blow up one. Maybe I should just make it out of cardboard too.

The thing is, if I can be bothered to do these things I want them to be totally original and non-silly LOL!

No none of our horses are spooky in the slightest. This particular horse could have spoons and bells and umbrellas hanging off him and he wouldn't care.

all that you really need to do is get some like stiff netting/coloured netting! make it into a tutu!

Now a ghost would be boring !!

Last year she took little Cloud and Meg dressed up in a wedding dress with a big lonf skirt and Cloud was the groom....get it!!

Cloud wore a small top hat and cuffs around her feet and a shirt front with bow tie. They looked pretty good.

But at this particular show there are usually loads of fairies....and ghosts LOL!!
 
could you deflate the bottom half of the trunk and attatch it to his dock? So it sticks up above his tail?

Or make a mini palm tree and stick it to his poll??

You could also get green crepe strips and plait them into his mane like seaweed?

And shell bangles round his legs?
 
Thanks everyone for all your ideas. I think I'll stick to the idea of the beach - off out now to have a play around to see what will work.

How about cave man, she looks like she has a lovely long mane to mess up, Daughter could put furry hair over her riding hat and have a big piece of fur or a sack with a hole for her head and arms, club etc etc.

Red indian girl & horse, hand prints on the bum etc, feathers in the mane
Mexican
Barbie girl
Horse man/lady of the apocalypse (sp) war death, pestilence or famine
 
I think your beach idea sounds really good!
My lame idea is a "My little pony". I'm sure when I was a kid there was one called Peaches. You could get a stencil like is used for quarter marking and put hearts/ peaches on the horse's bum and colour the mane and tail pink LOL. However this is going back quite a few years so people at the show (younger than me

'Lady Godiva' would be the easiest but as you are in Canada I doubt if anyone would know who she was!

The costume is ......pink body suit and a long blond wig consisting of bathing cap threaded with hairy baling twine (brushed out).Include a lovely palomino pony with log flowing mane (plus rider

My daughter is called Hayley - I rolled her up in a wodge of haylage, cling-filmed her and she went as 'a mini Hayleyage bale'. She was very popular with the other ponies!

Child needs to be called Hayley for this to work, I suppose
